Known as Kazu to his friends, he is a childhood friend of Ikki who was influenced to take up Air Treks (AT) and join Kogarasumaru. Initially bullied by Ikki as a child, Kazu often feels overshadowed by others, especially considering Ikki's natural talent. In the manga, Kazu owns a dog named Chiwa. He later takes up running, which eventually makes him an exceptionally fast AT rider. Showing signs of following the Flame Road, Spitfire takes an interest in him and eventually proclaims Kazu to be the next Flame King. Before Spitfire’s death, Kazu is entrusted with the Flame Regalia. During his challenge to save those fallen into hell, Kazu discovers this mantle and realizes he truly wants to fight against Ikki. They engage in an intense battle, which ends in a draw. Despite Ikki seeming to gain the upper hand, Kazu is satisfied with closing the gap between their skill levels. Kazu has not only adopted Spitfire's techniques like Afterburner but also Aeon Clock’s Time Manipulation, taught through advanced training programs left in Spitfire’s ATs. Recently, Kazu copied a trick called "Flame Lens" from an opponent, allowing him to create illusions of himself and Agito to win battles. This technique, considered above special A-class, is powerful for a tentative king to use without regalia. Kazu seems unaware of Emily’s feelings for him and may not reciprocate them, though he does show her special attention, such as retrieving her necklace when it was thrown into a river by a rival, holding her hand after a defeat by the White Wolves, and hugging her after she retrieves a balloon during a match against Inorganic Net (formerly Sleeping Forest). Unlike Onigiri and Ikki, Kazu represents a sense of morality when it comes to women. For instance, when Onigiri caught up with Croissant Mask (Ringo in disguise) to look at her behind during their first parts war, Kazu was embarrassed while Ikki was envious.
