Jushi Mataza Tsumuji currently leads the Tsumuji Family, a White Feather Family renowned for their spear expertise. Every known member of his father's lineage carries Mataza as a middle name, but this is the name by which he is commonly addressed. Additionally, Mataza belongs to the Shukyou Family, a branch family of the Red Feather Kabane Family. He is the illegitimate son of Yorihira Tsumuji and the half-brother of Yorimasa Tsumuji, who was the rightful heir to the Tsumuji family.
Two years ago, when Sōhaku Kago aided Mitsuomi Takayanagi, he also exiled the other family leaders. Mataza assumed leadership of the Tsumuji family during this time. He expelled his father from the family and took control of his forces. Furthermore, he imprisoned his brother, subjecting him to relentless torture while keeping him barely alive.
Mataza typically appears heavily cloaked, with fabric covering all but his left eye. Without the covering, he has long black hair that usually falls over his right eye. His right eye is sealed shut by scar tissue from a childhood injury that awakened his powers. Despite his extremely thin appearance, almost malnourished-looking, Mataza is far from weak.
