Joutarou is a fictional character from the Japanese manga series "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure," specifically the protagonist of Part 3. He sports a distinctive look with a trenchcoat-length school uniform jacket adorned with yellow chains around the collar. His iconic hat, which appears to blend seamlessly into his hair, often seems torn at the back. Initially depicted as separate, later depictions blur the line between where his hat ends and his hair begins. This hat resembles a traditional Japanese student cap worn with gakuran uniforms before the 1970s.
Known for his short temper, Joutarou stands out as the sole JoJo to feature in five different parts of the series. He is Holy Kuujou's son and Joseph Joestar's grandson. When first introduced, Joutarou turns himself into the police, believing he is possessed by an evil spirit—his Stand. To demonstrate this, he steals a guard's gun and attempts to shoot himself, only for Star Platinum, his Stand, to catch the bullet mid-air—an act visible only to Holy, causing fear among the guards and inmates.
Joseph arrives with Muhammad Avdol to help Joutarou, leading to a brief fight due to Joutarou's defiance. After being released and learning about Stands, Joutarou becomes adept with Star Platinum—a powerful, muscular entity resembling an Aztec deity known for its machine-like precision and ability to unleash devastating fist barrages. In Part 6, "Stone Ocean," Joutarou works as an oceanologist in the U.S., marries, and has a daughter, Jolyne, who inherits Stand powers and follows her father’s adventurous path, even adopting a similar outfit style.
Joutarou exhibits a tough exterior but is deeply loyal and intelligent, often relying on his fists or wits to handle enemies. His demeanor is cool and slightly disinterested, yet he loves and respects his family. Despite being chased by admirers, he remains aloof. Dio sees him as his greatest threat. During Part 6, Joutarou shows his protective side, shielding Jolyne from danger. When Anasui proposes to Jolyne, Joutarou subtly resists, pulling her close instead.
Joutarou balances ferocity with gentleness, sparing foes like Noriaki Kakyouin and Polnareff when they acted under Dio's influence, turning them into valuable allies. His catchphrase, "Yare yare daze," roughly translates to "Gimme a break" and reflects his exasperation. In the manga, he reads Shounen Jump while imprisoned, which saves him from Dio's knife attacks. Considered the most charismatic JoJo, Joutarou commands Star Platinum—one of the strongest Stands, capable of superhuman feats and time stopping. Its limitations include a narrow range of activity within 2-3 meters from Joutarou.
