Jet was initially designated 001 but was later replaced by Ivan. Hailing from New York City, United States, Jet was the leader of the Jets gang on New York's West Side. (In the manga, his introduction is a parody of the opening scenes from the movie "West Side Story".) During a confrontation with the Puerto Rican Sharks gang, Jet fatally stabs a rival member, causing the others to flee to avoid the police. However, Jet was intercepted by members of Black Ghost, who took him away from the scene to be transformed into a cyborg. True to his name, Jet has boosters integrated into his feet, enabling him to fly at speeds up to Mach 5. Like 002, he is equipped with an early form of acceleration module, which was later refined for 009. Jet possesses a brash personality that often leads to conflicts with his peers (in the 2001 series, he is sometimes outright hostile towards them), yet he remains a loyal and good-hearted team member. He was among the 00 Cyborgs who were frozen until more advanced technology and procedures could be developed. Chronologically, Jet is in his 40s or 50s, as he was 18 when captured. Notably, Jet has a prominent nose.
