To ensure a healthy birth for her child, Isago needs to consume mermaid flesh, as she herself is actually a mermaid. She explains to Rin that there are two types of mermaids: those who walk on land and those who swim in the sea. Land-walking mermaids eat the flesh of swimming mermaids, especially during pregnancy. Eventually, Isago ate mermaid flesh, dove into the ocean, transformed back into a mermaid, and gave birth to two healthy babies.
