Heine Westenfluss is a distinguished ZAFT pilot who initially piloted the orange Blaze ZAKU Phantom and later the orange ZGMF-X2000 GOUF Ignited. As an elite ace, he wears the red ZAFT uniform for top graduates and sports the FAITH insignia, indicating his direct reporting line to Chairman Gilbert Durandal. Heine first appeared in Phase 19, escorting Athrun Zala, Shinn Asuka, and Lunamaria Hawke to meet Chairman Dullindal at Diocuia after the Battle of Gulnahan. It's speculated that the orange mobile suit seen in the Battle of Aprilius One in Phase 9 (Prideful Fang) was his Blaze ZAKU Phantom, where his exceptional performance destroyed numerous mobile suits and several battleships. He also fought in the Bloody Valentine War, particularly the Second Battle of Jachin Due, piloting the YFX-6000R GuAIZ Experimental Firearms Type against Earth Alliance ace Morgan Chevalier.
Heine was known for his optimistic yet realistic demeanor, often engaging in conversations to boost morale. Despite considering himself elite, he earned respect from both superiors and subordinates for his skills and leadership. Although part of Athrun’s squad upon transferring to the Minerva, Heine was regarded almost as a superior by his peers, including Athrun. During the Battle of Dardanelles, his GOUF Ignited’s primary offensive functions were disabled by Kira Yamato’s ZGMF-X10A Freedom. While attempting a counter-attack on Kira, he inadvertently got in the way of Stella Loussier’s ZGMF-X88S Gaia, which sliced him in half as she aimed to attack Freedom.
