Gyarados is a piscine, draconic Pokémon with an elongated serpentine body adorned in slightly overlapping scales. Predominantly blue, it boasts a yellow underbelly and rows of yellow spots running down each side. Its mouth is vast and open, showcasing four pointed teeth alongside yellow lips. It features one pair of barbels and small white fins on either side of its face; the barbels are white for females and blue for males. Gyarados has small red eyes, a three-pointed dark blue crest atop its head, and four spiky dorsal fins. The tail fin mirrors the head crest but includes a thin, white fin stretched between the points.
Evolution alters its brain structure, believed to trigger its violent demeanor. Gyarados's fangs can crush stones, and its scales surpass steel in hardness. Revered as the "deity of destruction" in some regions due to its ferocious temper and destructive tendencies since ancient times, it emerges during conflicts, devastating surroundings. Such rampages can endure for a month, even amid storms, halting only after total destruction. Human settlements were once thought doomed upon Gyarados's appearance. It inhabits both freshwater and saltwater environments. In the anime, Gyarados and its Mega form leap vast distances, yet sightings in the wild are rare. Hyper Beam is frequently linked with Gyarados due to its immense destructive power.
Forms
Gyarados can undergo Mega Evolution into Mega Gyarados. Post-Mega Evolution, it becomes bulkier. Cheek fins lengthen and adopt a yellow hue. The crest enlarges and turns black, while barbels extend significantly. A large spike protrudes beneath its chin, and a black underside with a red border appears. Yellow spots transform into raised red scales propelling it through water. Two large yellow fins with blue spines emerge on its back, replacing most other dorsal fins, which are supplanted by two rows of blue spikes. Four yellowish, spiky fins near its tail—two above and two below—are now present.
The stress from Mega Evolution intensifies its ferocity, leaving only a destructive drive active. Despite this, it will heed a trusted Trainer. Using orifices to expel water from both sides, Mega Gyarados attains Mach Speed, capable of splitting large ships. Tied with Hoopa Unbound as the tallest Dark-type, it epitomizes sheer power.
