Golem is a bipedal, tortoise-like Pokémon with a spherical body covered by a shell of green, plated rocks. Its body is incredibly hard, so much so that even dynamite cannot scratch it. The head emerges from the center of the shell and features a flat snout with two pointed teeth in the lower jaw and red eyes. Golem has short arms with three claws each and legs with feet that have four front claws and one back claw. The head and limbs are light brown.
Golem grows larger by shedding its skin annually. The discarded shell hardens immediately upon exposure to air and eventually crumbles into soil. Farmers often collect these shells and spread the resulting soil across fields to enhance crop growth. As Golem ages, it stops shedding, and moss begins to grow on its shell. According to the Pocket Monsters Carddass Trading Cards, Golem's shell is hollow.
In the anime, Golem can retract its head and limbs into its shell and roll at high speeds. This makes it dangerous since it cannot see and may crash into obstacles or people. To prevent accidents, grooves are dug into mountain sides to redirect rolling Golems. Rarely seen in the wild, Golem typically inhabits mountainous regions. It can also use explosive force to leap between mountains.
Forms
Golem has a regional form known as Alolan Golem. In the Alola region, this variant has shorter forearms with two claws and feet with only two claws each. Iron sand accumulates on its face, creating the appearance of a mustache, eyebrows, and a large black beard. Two large black rocks jut out from its top, forming a cannon shape with a smaller rock in between. Three golden dots are located on the inner edge of the larger rocks.
The cannon structure prevents Alolan Golem from easily rolling into a ball like its Kantonian counterpart. This variant has a grumpy and stubborn personality. When upset, it roars thunderously while discharging electricity. Alolan Golem can fire the small rock using magnetism, causing electric shocks upon impact, which can lead to numbness or fainting. If no rocks are available, it will launch nearby Geodude instead.
Alolan Golem and its pre-evolved forms are the only known Pokémon that can possess the Galvanize Ability.
Evolution
Golem evolves from Graveler and is the final form of Geodude. The Alolan variant is a dual-type Rock/Electric Pokémon that evolves from Alolan Graveler and is the final form of Alolan Geodude.
