Gluttony is the second homunculus to appear in the series, often seen in the company of Lust. He is a large, simple-minded creature whose thoughts are almost always centered around eating. With powerful jaws and acidic saliva, Gluttony can consume nearly anything. He particularly enjoys eating people, and his only interest in battle comes from the possibility of devouring his opponent afterward. A recurring joke in both the manga and anime involves him asking Lust (or any other homunculi) if he can eat someone. He seems to have a preference for girls and shares a close bond with Lust.
In the 2003 anime series, there is no significant information about his role.
In the manga and 2009 anime series, Gluttony is the sixth homunculus created by Father and represents a failed attempt to create a Gate of Truth. When this gate activates, Gluttony's stomach opens up, revealing a large eye at its center. His ribs spread out to form a border for the gate and act as extendable teeth. Using these teeth, Gluttony can instantly consume everything within his eye's field of vision, transporting it to an inner realm where artifacts from centuries ago can be found, indicating his age. During a battle with Edward Elric, Lan Fan, Ling Yao, Fu, and the chimeras, Gluttony and his philosopher's stone are consumed by Pride.
