Bulbasaur is a small, four-legged amphibious Pokémon with blue-green skin and darker patches. It features red eyes with white pupils, pointed ear-like structures on its head, and a short, blunt snout with a wide mouth. When its mouth is open, a pair of small, pointed teeth in the upper jaw are visible. Each of its thick legs ends with three sharp claws. On Bulbasaur's back is a green plant bulb that hides two slender, tentacle-like vines grown from a seed planted there at birth. This bulb provides energy through photosynthesis and nutrients from the seeds inside.
As stated in the anime, starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur are raised by Breeders to be given to new Trainers. Since it has been domesticated from birth, Bulbasaur is considered both rare and well-behaved. It is known for its extreme loyalty, even after long-term abandonment. In the anime, Bulbasaur exhibits nurturing behavior towards younger, weaker Pokémon, with one instance showing it using its vines to gently rock a crying Pokémon while singing a "Bulba-by."
Bulbasaur can be found in grasslands and forests throughout the Kanto region. However, due to its status as a starter Pokémon, it is rarely encountered in the wild and is generally owned by a Trainer. It has been observed that Bulbasaur's bulb flashes blue when it is ready to evolve. If it does not want to evolve, it struggles against the transformation. Every year, many Bulbasaur gather in a hidden garden in Kanto to evolve into Ivysaur in a ceremony led by a Venusaur.
Evolution
Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur, which then evolves into Venusaur.
