Duke Everlue is the primary antagonist in the Daybreak arc. A corrupt politician, he wields absolute power and influence over the neighboring town of Shirotsume.
Everlue is an arrogant and self-centered man who considers himself highly cultured and superior to everyone else. He maintains a vast collection of books to flaunt his supposed love for literature, though Lucy labels him as an enemy of literature due to his blackmailing of novelist Kemu Zaleon into writing a novel with Everlue as the protagonist. Additionally, he is extremely greedy and possessive, believing that anything he owns is solely his and refuses to part with it or let anyone else touch it, even if he deems it worthless.
Everlue has a rather distorted sense of beauty: He finds unattractive women beautiful and declares ordinary-looking girls like Lucy to be ugly. As a mage specializing in Diver magic, he has a habit of appearing anywhere by bursting through the ground. Before Lucy acquired her, Virgo was owned by Everlue.
