Doctor Butterfly (ドクター・バタフライ, Dokutā Batafurai) is the leader of LXE. His original name was Bakushaku Chono (蝶野 爆爵, Chōno Bakushaku), and he is the still-living great-great-grandfather of Koshaku Chōno, also known as Papillon. Dr. Butterfly sports a moth-shaped mustache, and his battle outfit resembles a white version of Papillon's, complete with an attached cape. He considers Papillon weak, believing that he cannot go very far on his own, which prompts Papillon to challenge him to a fight using their Buso Renkin.
During this confrontation, Dr. Butterfly is killed by Papillon just before Victor awakens. In his final moments, he uses his Buso Renkin to greet Victor. Dr. Butterfly wields Kakugane LXX, the true version of the Kakugane that Kazuki supposedly owns, which manifests as the Buso Renkin Alice in Wonderland (アリス・イン・ワンダーランド, Arisu in Wandārando). This Chaff Buso Renkin has a wing-like structure similar to Papillon's Near Death Happiness but is platinum-white and can confuse the nervous system. In concentrated mode, it can directly affect a person's brain, inducing hallucinations and illusions. Alice in Wonderland is also capable of disrupting radio and electric waves and can create a mist when in contact with water.
