Under Char Aznable's command, Denim was assigned to lead a reconnaissance mission to Side 7, accompanied by Slender and Gene. Their objective was to spy on an Earth Federation base that was transporting a new type of mobile suit. When Gene chose to disobey orders and attack the base, Denim had no option but to support him. As Amuro Ray entered the cockpit of the RX-78-2 Gundam and critically damaged Gene's Zaku, Denim ordered Gene to retreat with Slender. However, Amuro intercepted and destroyed the retreating Zaku.

Enraged by the loss of his comrade, Denim made a final desperate charge at the Gundam. Amuro, determined to avoid causing an explosion that could fatally damage Side 7, used the Gundam's Beam Saber to pierce the cockpit of Denim's Zaku, bringing it to a halt and instantly incinerating Denim inside.
