Major Dan Dastun, later promoted to colonel in the second season, is the head of the Military Police. He used to be Roger's commander, and they still keep in touch. Dastun dislikes the force being referred to as the "watchdogs" of the Paradigm Corporation and has shown disdain for its executives. He is aware that Alex Rosewater lacks concern for many of the city's residents.
Dastun's pride in his role within the military police causes friction with Roger after he resigns from the force. He exhibits significant irritation whenever Big O appears, initially attributing this to disliking the vigilante nature of the Megadeus. However, as the series progresses, he reveals to Roger that his frustration stems from the Military Police's inability to protect the city effectively due to frequent Megadeus attacks. This situation necessitates Big O's frequent interventions, which Dastun feels undermines the purpose of the military police. Nonetheless, he comes to accept this reality during the second season.
He is one of the few characters who know of Roger's connection to Big O and the only person within the military police with this knowledge. It is revealed that he obtained this information before the start of the second season, but he is only seen directly discussing it with Roger once.
