Caprico is a member of the dark guild, Grimoire Heart, and one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. He employs a Lost Magic known as Human Subordination, which weakens nearby humans' physical and magical abilities, enslaving them to fight on his behalf. This ability allows him to summon humans at will, essentially reversing Celestial Spirit Magic, giving him an edge in battles against four of Fairy Tail's top Mages.
In reality, Caprico is a Celestial Spirit (one of the twelve Golden Zodiac Keys) possessed by Zoldeo, the true member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory from the Dark Guild Grimoire Heart. In the past, he was contracted to Layla Heartfilia. However, Layla grew tired and decided to retire from her life as a Mage. She entrusted her three spirits—Aquarius, Capricorn, and Cancer—to new owners. One recipient was Zoldeo, who took Capricorn's key. Initially, Zoldeo agreed to a pact made between Capricorn and Layla, promising to lend his strength to Layla's child if they chose to pursue magic. Over time, however, Zoldeo succumbed to darkness and used his magic on Capricorn, breaking a taboo and ultimately possessing Capricorn's body. As a result, Capricorn remained in the Human World for 17 years.
