Muk is a large, sticky, amorphous Pokémon composed of living purple sludge. It has two tiny eyes with small black pupils and an enormous mouth featuring a gray tongue and strands of ooze connecting its upper and lower jaws. Although it lacks visible legs, it does have two arms, each with three fingers. Typically, one hand remains tucked in while the other extends outward.
Muk is essentially a walking biohazard, leaking toxins that immediately kill any plant life it comes into contact with. Even being near plants can cause them to wilt and die. Extreme caution is advised to avoid any contact with this Pokémon, as even a slight brush could lead to severe illness. The aftermath of Muk's presence can leave the environment barren for up to three years. It consumes almost any waste or refuse produced by humans and Pokémon alike. Its body emits a powerful odor capable of causing fainting spells. Despite the dangers posed by its stench, some fans of Muk believe its smell is beneficial.
Muk is commonly found in heavily polluted water bodies, factories, and cities where it gathers to feed on trash discarded by people. However, due to recent environmental improvements and extermination efforts, Muk's population has been declining. This has led some to fear it may go extinct; thus, sludge ponds are being constructed to help preserve its species.
Forms
Muk has a regional form known as Alolan Muk. Alolan Muk displays a more vibrant coloration, including green, pink, and yellow stripes separated by thin blue bands. The green, yellow, and pink stripes can shift downwards, while the blue remains stationary. It features various white, crystallized poison shards protruding from parts of its body, especially from its mouth and fingers, giving it a claw-like appearance. It has blue eyes with a black space behind them and a bright blue tongue. Its vivid coloration results from the garbage it consumes, which causes chemical changes within its body. Over a hundred different kinds of poisons exist within its body, and the chemical reactions between these poisons provide Alolan Muk with vitality.
Alolan Muk is surprisingly quiet and friendly. However, if not fed trash for some time, it may destroy its Trainer's furnishings out of hunger. It is believed that it cannot maintain its energy without a constant source of toxins, leading to its voracious appetite. The crystals covering its body tend to break off, making it extremely difficult to handle due to the concentrated toxins they contain. Unlike Kantonian Muk, Alolan Muk does not produce a foul stench because its toxins are contained within its body. Alolan Muk preys on Trubbish and Garbodor. They can also be found in the Coastal Biome of Blueberry Academy's Terarium, where Alola's island life is simulated.
