I really want to hear the actual melody played in this two chapters. Can't read music notation :-[

so the old man backstory is sad he was abandoned by his pretty mother for a rich guy but he is still a grumpy old man

Nice Black Jack reference. Getting familiar with Tezukas work before reading this is paying off already.

Probably, but I'm more inclined to think that was a reference to Black Jack, another Tezuka work.

Indeed, it was definitely Black Jack. You can just tell by the bit they showed.

I thought of Monster as well, but I guess I gotta check out Blackjack now! Lol

I remember Monster the anime and it did seem that way.. the old mans past really left him scared.

That was totally a Black Jack reference, and too bad we only got like his legs, I would've liked to see how he'd look in Urasawa's style.

oh...I haven't gotten to read Monster or Black Jack yet...

I've read Ode to Kirihito and that supposedly was the precursor for Black Jack and Tezuka's whole medical manga genre
