For me what makes or breaks a series are these three qualities. If one of these things goes too low, I'll easily drop it.
The translator is known for adequate translations and seems to actually proofread their work, unlike others who use machine translations and post them as is and expects to get donations for it.
The story is a generic "hero returns" stories that's been done before, which is fine. The world building was also fine. Though kind of bland and very "Japan centric" lore wise, which is also fine. However this just makes the story mediocre/ average at best.
What killed my interest in the story was the main characters personality, behavior and thought process. Now I don't know why the author bothered to put down that the character spent 6 years in another world but kept his personality at the level of a middle schooler (which I believe is 15 years old). Which I can understand is the typical age for Shonen protagonists.
However shouldn't he have matured at least somewhat during the 6 years he spent in the other world? Not saying 21 year Olds are that much more mature but c'mon. His thought process isn't even at the level of a 15 year old. At points he acts like a 10 or even 7 year old. Especially with how he jumps to conclusions and acts with a self important attitude.
Maybe he gets better but I'm not sticking around to find out. Maybe they'll rework his character to not be so unbearable if this get adapted to a manga.
