3.5 rounded up to 4 because it's mostly good, it just gets a little too boring with a lot of repeated lines and unneeded passages.
The concept is the standard "missing daughter returned to family" but the family (as a whole) is a little bit different than the usual rich family. The mother is the domineering CEO, the father is a weepy (occasionally) genius scientist, the older brother is a super-celebrity (who inherited none of his parent's intelligence) and the paternal uncle is a super-businessman (who may or may not have been in the mafia).
The MC is the missing daughter who has lived her life as a man due to her adoptive parents (or owners technically because they bought her from s*avers) wanting a boy. She grew up tough because the adoptive dad was regularly drunk and abusive while the mother was incredibly passive. To make money growing up, she did a lot of random tasks and quickly put her all into school as she could get a scholarship and eventually leave. Upon returning to her biological family, she quickly begins to excel at her new school but never loses her edge from a hard life.
The ML is... not really a love interest until the end. A genius student, he encountered her one day at a hospital and fell in love at first sight. Only to never see her again until she transferred to his school. After that, he was fine to wait for her as she had no interest in dating. However, he eventually tricks her into a fake relationship to prevent others from pursuing her and his presence gradually grows on her.
We join the story as someone comes to get the MC to return her to the family. Only for it to be revealed that this person is from the maternal family and hadn't informed the MC's parents which results in our first introduction to the family problems the MC's family has. From there, she returns and takes her place as well as quickly usurping one of the top academic spots in the grade. She quickly sorts out the marriage contract (which was really just a verbal agreement) but has to deal with many people thinking she's a guy. That quickly ends when she wears a skirt (and proceeds to beat three guys up) but the girls in her school are still obsessed with her.
The antagonists in this are never there for very long. While the original-FL and original-ML had more staying power, their overall affect on the MC's life was almost non-existent. They interacted but their problems were almost all solved within a chapter or two. Once they leave the school, we never see a satisfactory end to them (the extra chapters give more closure but it's still lackluster).
Spoiler
The Original-FL refuses to let the Original-ML move on and he's too s*upid to realize that she is the worst thing in his life. Because of her, he got expelled transferred from a top rated school (he was constantly skipping but still), ruined the potential of a lucrative marriage contract, destroyed his already shakey relationship with his mother, and wrecked his chances of being a successful businessman in their home country. He gets her pregnant (not 100% if he was aware) but his mother sent him abroad and was going to practically sell him to a wealthy woman for benefits so the Original-FL made a point of letting the other woman know he had a kid.
All while the Original-FL had already married someone else (who then got a divorce because he apparently developed IQ points).
This is all revealed after the novel ends so it's kind of 'eh' at that point. It's also not the first extra so it feels even more lacking.
[collapse]
The MC's interactions with everyone were entertaining but it felt like a lot of the same being repeated over and over. Her deskmate was entertaining but he'd be horrible to have around if he was a real person. Same with the other two who were obsessing over her.
For the most part, I did enjoy the story but I found myself skipping whole chunks of the last chapters because it just got too boring.
