Originally, the Second Prince and the Female lead were supposed to meet at JiaoJiao's month celebration but once her mother heard that from JiaoJiao, she let the female lead be lost in their bamboo forest.
Second time was at a poetry contest. JiaoJiao peed on the Second Prince which made him leave. In addition, JiaoJiao's brother paid someone to finish off the poetry verse with what he overheard from JiaoJiao which prevented the female lead from gaining notoriety.
[collapse]JiaoJiao's thought are responsible for a lot of deviations in the original story, even gaining the allies that would have belonged to the antagonists as well as one of the sources of their income.By chapter 130, the Qiao family has managed to avoid the disasters brought on by the antagonist. While the Royal family is unaware that it is them who have been "interfering", their actions have helped reveal the behaviour of the antagonist to the Emperor.SpoilerThe Emperor has been favouring the Second Prince because he was born from the woman the Emperor had a one sided romance with (she was a war hostage who became a concubine). He let this Prince put his own spies in the various palaces despite the Prince having heritage from a foreign kingdom.
He also does not allow the Crown Prince to investigate crimes that might implicate this beloved Second Prince.
This all began to change after the Western Prince was nearly drowned by one of the Emperor's Concubines who was seeing the Second Prince on the side (and her su*cide to try and keep the Second Prince from being blamed).
[collapse]While the Qiaos are a very loving family, the side intrigues of the palace add just enough to the story to make it outside the realm of slice of life. Plus, the family's attempts at keeping JiaoJiao from realizing they can hear her thoughts tends to be fairly funny.I'm looking forward to how the story turns out. Especially with the potential reveal of a twist coming up (predictable twist but still).SpoilerTurns out that there is a very good chance the Second Prince might not be the Emperor's son at all.
There was a teacher hired to educate the Western Prince who was actually from the North. He wanted to make the Empress and Crown Prince suffer so he plotted getting into the pala e so he could assasinate the Western Prince on his birthday.
After he was caught and killed, the northern servant with the Second Prince lamented that the two had never met and even spoke about how the Prince's mother had only been happy when the dead man had been there and that he had been the Prince's real father.
This was overheard by the Second Prince's concubine who eventually managed to escape his palace. She gave a note containing the information to another Prince in exchange for him getting her out of the Palace.
[collapse]Definitely something I'd recommend reading.
