EDIT: Apparently, as I read the 5 chapters further before I decided to drop or not (always read 5 more chapters before dropping a novel!), I finally found snippets of lovely lovely romance. Not sprinkles, not grains, but actual snippets. There's still not much. But different from the kisses, these snippets of romance actually had tension and chemistry and just overall changed my mind. I'll continue, and raise my rating to 4/5.This above is my new current review. The one below the ~~~~~~ line was my old one, made angrily at c124. Some points still stand, like the romance is way too slow, etc etc. But this above is added to give credits where it is due.~~~~~~ Alright. So, the story is fine, there's no weird furry sh*t going on. When the shapeshifters are in human form, they're human. It's light-hearted etc etc. It was very enjoyable read, until it isn't.For what reason do I read romance novel? For romance! There must be fluff, there must be tension, there must be romance. But this novel... calling it slow burn is underestimating it. There is kiss. There are kisses, actually, so far at chapter 124. But what makes me feel so turned off is Spoiler
the female lead kept turning down the male lead when she's clearly into him. She's so traumatised by her parents' failed marriage, she doesn't want to admit she's in love. There's devil's mind fckery in there, too, but she could have brute forced her way through instead of getting confused everytime. It's fine if it's only chapter 60 80 90 100, but it's chapter 124! It's 67% there, and nothing! Nothing concrete has formed! This isn't even an epic or a saga, this isn't even action, nor does it have x, 000s of chapters. If you call this sht romance, be ashamed. I'll bring you romance. This sht feels like slice of life with just a sprinkle of romance instead.
[collapse]It's so good, well-written AS A SLICE OF LIFE, but as a romance book, I feel like the romance part is simmered too much, it's so bloody soggy.I had to check the tags and genre *thrice* before making this review. I thought I misread the genre somehow, at the very least. But nah, it's comedy, fantasy, romance.Anyway. Screw this sh*t, man. If, if the rating stays on 3/5 on my review in like 30 days, consider me dropping the book.
