After reading for so long, this is as far as I go.I'm starting to think that academy genre isn't really for me. Of all the ones I have read, there's only been one that I love 'Main heroines are trying to kill me'.It is because I find them so boring most of the time, so after saying this, maybe my review isn't the best for you but I'll still give my points as to why I don't like this. This novel kept me reading for so long because it goes from 0 to 100 out of nowhere, which is awesome. But sadly, it doesn't stay in 100, it goes back to 0 quickly after ; and it keeps going like this throughout the chapters.Let's start with the MC and the main theme of the novel, which is tragedy and depression. This feels super forced into the story, sometimes his mental instability makes sense but most of the time it is so exaggerated just for the sake of making other characters and the readers feel sorry for him. Like bro, yes you had a hard life but it isn't nowhere near as bad as you are making it out to be.Also, he sometimes out of nowhere gets super edgy for some reason, it is pretty cringe. Other times he does something pretty crazy and then gets depressed and confused when people are scared of him. An example:Spoiler
MC start torturing and burning alive a bad guy while LITERALLY SMILING LIKE A MANIAC. A lot of students saw him do it, students that were already wary of him because of his past behavior. And then he is like:
"Why are people afraid of me? I didn't do anything wrong Uwu"
I wonder why....
[collapse]Now for the side characters, specifically his harem. To be honest, they aren't really even characters, they are just devices meant to love him unconditionally. Most of the relationships here feel so one sided, where all they is worry for the MC. There's no chemistry between this characters, there's no friendship, there's no actual love. All there is, is a force bond that they have because they use to be close when they were younger. The same thing happens with non-harem characters, but instead of love, replace it with either hate, wariness or pity. That's the extent of the relationships between the side characters and the MC.Instead of spending 70% of each chapter telling us how depressed MC is, or showing us the same flashback from his childhood for the 100th time, maybe spend some time building up the side characters. This novel shares many similarities with 'Main heroines are trying to kill me'The difference is that, the side characters in "Main heroines" have a life and a personality outside of the MC. You get to know them, their personalities, their traits, there abilities, their unique relationship with the MC, their goals. While here, side characters will only appear if something related to the MC is happening. Otherwise, they don't even show up. Most relationships here feel one sided, forced, and shallow. What makes this worse is that this novel is mainly about the mc's mental health, and how he overcomes it. And the only way to do so is with the help of those closest to you, so writing compelling side characters should have been the most important thing in this novel, but the author didn't even tryI wish I could express myself better but English isn't my main tongue so it is difficult. This novel is an inferior version of main heroines in every single way, either in story, the MC, side characters, romance, and the way it handles themes like depression and tragedy. It had potential but the author wasn't skilled enough to make it work.So just read main heroines
