A Depressed Kendo Player Possesses a Bastard Aristocrat Chapter 116 Discussion

Let's get this straight, I'm an academy genre lover so the quality judging bar of mine isn't that high but man, it one gives me a headache.

First the mandatory pros section of the review: translating is good, the author has some real skill at depicting character psychic and mentality, thought process. The dialogue is lively and shows some charm, personality. There are detailed fight scenes here and there if you are an avid fan of it. Extremely good payoff atm after a long and tedious arc so there is planning and thought put in when writing this.

Alright that enough sugarcoating part, let get to the problems this novel have:

Pacing: At first pacing is something I will put on the obligatory "pros'' section if I write this review like 60 chaps sooner, combine the character's psychic conveying and pacing, it very much deserve its ranking but after some part/chaps (that I way too lazy to double check and put on here)..... geez louise isn't it soul consuming to read. Like I say above, the author is a professional at character mental (distress, dark, agony mentality, those kind, haven't see him/her do the opposite or if do, not that notable) but because of his/her skill that make this novel unbearable to read; 60% of some arc is just sobbing, whining, crying. We get it you are sad, for pete sake. It might be hard for you guys to feel/see it, but try to imagine, reading this novel 2-3 chap per day and all those 2-3 chap have to offer is the MC breaking down, wait for tomorrow to read how hard MC breaks even more. This goes on for 2 weeks or so irl. The pacing is rough and mentally draining (for a daily reader), so I just skip like some week later and come back, skip all the sobs and continue on the story, I skim pass like 25 chap and guess what, I haven't missed out much or at all. (this review at is already long and I haven't talk about the flashback arcs with inner feelings/thought arcs)

Like I said above, "the quality judging bar of mine isn't that high" reading tr*sh tag is my thing, those harem or misunderstood or OP power won't affect, bother me that much, the expected standard I have is pretty low. But even I have to point out, these trope very much feel like the author being held at gunpoint and make put in, the overall story won't change or differ if these element is gone and it badly implement (tr*sh genre also have standar of tr*sh and this is bad).

Case 1: system, this novel's system is the most macguffin thing in it, Iron Will skill, sure or you could say he have high tolerance/ resistance to dark and suicidal thought which later he don't cus now it too much. God sword, he has read the novel of the world he transports into. Broken equipment, he the son of duke, is it that hard to get your hand on anything or at all? Make him baron I guess I could let it slide.

Case 2: Harem, come on people, this could do well even if the one he hurted is his friend, a dude, I let a lot of others novel slide with the harem thing cus it hook and engage people, but the story, dialogue and character of this novel is already good at it is, there are no point for some of his friends to not be a dude, some dude.

Alright this is horrendously long already and there alot of things that I have talked about (like mention above the flashback, inner-talk arcs and also other macguffin that I don’t touch on), but at that point it is in nitpick territory (case 2 already nitpick also).

All in all, don't be a daily reader for this one and you won't get frustrated to the point of writing a 700-ish word long review for it. 4/5 as a monthly reader and 2.5/5 if you want to be a daily reader. And remember!! It okay to feel depress and suicidal, some time talk is the best way and ask for help guys, everyone around you is willing to help you no matter what.
