Overlimit Skill Holder Chapter v2 epilogue 1 Discussion

My actual score would be 3.5 but I rounded it up. I'll mention quite a few negative points of the novel but that's because I know it has potential to be great but it keeps disappointing me at critical moments.

This novel isn't bad per se, but I can't call it good either. Like many others mentioned, it's difficult to go through the prologue, but it gets better later. The 1st volume is more slow paced and sets the background for many of the characters including our MC. Whereas, volume 2 is more action -packed. The story itself isn't that new. It's an isekai novel where the MC initially forgets his past life but eventually remembers it to become OP. Frankly, I'm a sucker for this type of isekai novels. The problem with this one is that the MC is all over the place. Even after 50+ chapters, I don't understand the MC. He has a few temporary goals, but I don't see any aims in his life. (Not even slacking) Some may say that he's going with the flow, but to me, it feels more like the author's sloppiness in organizing the story and their lack of foresight. The author is probably creating the story as they go from one volume to the other. And it's fine to do so as long as the character traits are defined. But this MC is so amorphous - there's no way to define him or understand what he wants. He's the typical goody two shoes and I don't understand the motivation behind his actions. For example,

Spoiler

I understand why he becomes attached to the adventurers of the 'Silver Balance' - he met them right after he got free from s*avery and they treated him with much kindness and sincerity. But in vol 2, I don't get why he becomes so attached to Eva. Is it just her face? And yeah, 50% of vol 2 is about Eva's beauty (but she's 12!!!) I mean sure, he saw her grow up for a couple of years, but that's not enough to risk your life and secrets. Even if she will be a harem member in the future, right now it feels a bit forced from the MC's side.

Apart from the MC being inconsistent, the author has the tendency to kill off charcaters that have potential to become interesting. I mean it's better than having nobody die because of the 'power of friendship and justice', but these deaths could have come at a later date. Spoiler

I really can't get over Raikira's death. This character had much more chance to grow. And his death would've been more meaningfulif it happened at a later date. He had only started to develop as a character and a friend-like figure for MC.

Many of the important side characters are one-dimensional and linear. And I'd blame the author's writing for this, not the charcaters themeselves. The writing seems sloppy at times, so that the side characters like Spoiler

Eva seem very smart at times and very dumb and wilful at other times. And Mimmino seems to have only one trait in her - kindness. 🐸

[collapse]

As for romance, I'm not that focused on romance when it comes to isekai novels. And this novel hasn't focused much on the romantic aspect till now. However, we have been given a handful of potential harem members. And if the tags are correct, then they will all become members of the harem. Let's see where it goes from vol 3.
