The Warm Breeze is not as Warm as You Chapter -- Discussion

  • #1
I'm on chapters 1200+ (Story of Ling and Heng) by the time I'm writing this review.

A short rant.

I'm thinking about whether I should continue reading the story. It's getting a bit tiring, and I'm not really interested in reading stories that are still ongoing. I have been anticipating the story of Doctor Qin and Miss Shi the most but life just had to make me disappointed by making the couple's story incomplete. I endured reading all the useless paragraphs hoping to know some hints about the Qin Ge couple. It's not a habit of mine to skim through. Now, knowing that the Qin Ge couple's story might never be continued anymore, I'm hesitating on reading this novel.

The actual review.

What I think about the plot and the characters: (I'm excluding Qin Siting and Shi Niange since I haven't reached their story yet. This review is based on what I've read so far.)

The plot is not that unique, there are also novels out there where the female lead gets rebirthed after realizing how their previous life was ruined by their s*upid decisions. The character of the male lead, Mo Jingshen, is quite common as well. He's cold, overbearing, extremely loyal to his wife, possessive, and incredibly handsome. The warmth in his eyes will only be seen when he is gazing at his wife. Ji Nuan is not as smart as others might describe her. She has done a lot of s*upid things even in the life she is reborn in. Her beauty makes men always want to take advantage of her, and she is somehow smart. I wasn't too excited about Ji Nuan and Mo Jingshen's relationship. I know and I know that you know that they'll end up together. However, there was little to no character development. It's like the character development is at the first chapters itself, and from chapters 300+, their characters slowly go back to how they really were with slight changes of temperament because of the rebirth.

Spoiler

I also think the timing of the divorce is bad. I even dare say it's unnecessary! Mo Jingshen said something like: "Life's trajectory shouldn't run in reverse. Everything should go back to how it was. Everything that ended has to end." Alright, alright. I understand that there has to be a divorce agreement just like before in the past life. But does he have to do it so heartlessly? Ji Nuan was under so much stress at that time. She just experienced miscarriage, her stepfather she loves dearly is depressed because Ji Mengran (her evil half-sister) is missing, and her husband, Mo Jingshen, was in a coma for months. The time Mo Jingshen woke up, he immediately wanted a divorce? This makes me want to punch Mo Jingshen's handsome face so much. Mo Jingshen being hurt by Ji Nuan's words is incredibly satisfying three years later. Mo Jingshen has suffered, he deserved it. Still, I am happy they ended up together.

The story also contains some scenes that are considered r*pe, especially in Feng Ling and Li Nanheng's story, which is disturbing.

Spoiler

The first chapter, when Mo Jingshen has "disciplined" Ji Nuan in bed was not good, I don't side with Mo Jingshen in that part. However, I could explain for Mo Jingshen. Ji Nuan was persuaded by Ji Mengran to drug Mo Jingshen. Ji Mengran clearly has intentions to bring Mo Jingshen to bed and further ruin the couple's marriage. However, Mo Jingshen is loyal to Ji Nuan so he relieved the effects of the drug to his own wife. I dare not say Ji Nuan deserves it, but what Ji Nuan did was wrong too. Drugging her own husband, this is the consequence that followed her actions.

[collapse]

This book is not for kids to read, it has a lot of bed scenes. The aphrodisiac drugs are also very commonly used in the story, it's a bit making me unhappy.

Li Nanheng and Feng Ling's story I haven't completed yet, but here are my thoughts. The first chapters of Ling and Heng are entertaining. Li Nanheng is a man that is somehow the same as Mo Jingshen, but different as well. He is manly, the kind of man that is rough. He isn't as refined and cold as Mo Jingshen, and he is more outgoing than twenty Mo Jingshens combined. Feng Ling is extremely cold and distant towards people, and she is also gifted with martial arts skills. I like how Li Nanheng is willing to accept being gay for Feng Ling when he didn't know Feng Ling was a woman. I like how Li Nanheng is straightforward with his feelings. I like how Li Nanheng protects Feng Ling's identity, and how he respects Feng Ling's wish not to be too affectionate in front of the brothers of the base. However, there are times Li Nanheng angers me as much as he angers Feng Ling. He is too overbearing, and he sexually harassed Feng Ling at least thrice. But Li Nanheng's character is also good, I hope his image won't be too ruined in your mind. His character is better than you think. Unless provoked, he won't do anything offensive to Feng Ling. He is gentle and kind too.

Spoiler

When Feng Ling was driven out of the base the day after the 'Feng family marriage misunderstanding', I cried more than when Ji Nuan almost died. Perhaps, it's because I like Feng Ling more. When Li Nanheng and Feng Ling separated from each other for three years, the way Li Nanheng approached her melted my heart. Gone is the overbearing tiger of the XI Base, Li Nanheng. Gone is the forceful and fearless Li Nanheng. What was left is a docile, patient, and gentle Li Nanheng. What was left is a Li Nanheng that is afraid of doing something that could make Feng Ling push him away even further. After that, Feng Ling was thoroughly moved and their relationship was even more harmonious than before. But what happened after Feng Ling's expulsion from XI Base and the way Li Nanheng vented his anger to Feng Ling... was unacceptable. Even Li Nanheng himself admits that what he did was unforgivable.

[collapse]

The story of Ling and Heng made me happy most of the time, but right now I am bored. Feng Ling has made an irrational decision. Li Nanheng made one too. I just hope their story would end soon.

Spoiler

It was unjust to leave Li Nanheng without bothering to listen to his explanation of why she was removed from XI Base. Li Nanheng never said he wanted to cut off all ties with her, he just fulfilled Mr. Feng's last wish which was to bring Feng Ling back to the Feng family, and for her to be out of harm. Li Nanheng clearly does not want to remove Feng Ling out from XI Base. He also promised Feng Ling to help her in the business world, and even resigned from XI Base. But the stubborn Feng Ling was too mad. Perhaps it's because her mind was not yet stable. After all, her parents just died, and soon after, her home which is the XI Base kicked her out. I understand that it's also frustrating when your feelings are not considered and when someone decides for you... but I don't think it's nice to hold a grudge for it forever. What Li Nanheng did to Feng Ling after three years though is what's worth leaving him forever.

[collapse]

That's where I am at right now. So far, it's a nice story. It's not bad.

But please give me my Qin Ge couple's story or else I'll be mad!!!

Every book built up the next one. Every book we get more information, and more depth in every character's personality, attitude, thoughts and life. I loved the first book, I thought I won't feel myself that excited with the other books, that I felt with that one. Boy, was I wrong... thank you, Muse!
