Just finished this novel and these are some of my thoughts...
The epilogues were kinda overkill, I guess the author were trying to tie all loose ends. (MC got to see what happened after her death in 2nd life. Almost every 2.ML had their HE. The ex-husband went back to MC's 2nd life right before their wedding, the other prince (later emperor) of another country who liked MC got reincarnated into modern time where he became MC's adopted older brother.)MC got that protagonist halo, where all of the male who met with her will fall in love with her. (All of the prince/future emperor of the other country, a general from the other country, a son of a general from MC's country, white-lotus' cousin, MC's teacher in her 2nd life, and so on.)There's a cultivationish theme but not really delved further... (thank goodness)MC's mother's life was like those MC in dog blood novel.So first she was raped by her half brother, then she fell in love with the Emperor and married him. She refused to abort the baby, but then she faked her death and left her daughter with the Emperor (which was not her daughter's biological father), because she got bored contesting with other women for Emperor's affection. Then she never attempted any contact with MC. She met a kind vassal king (wang), fell in love with him and married him, but when she accidentally met MC when MC was amnesiac, she acted all motherly toward MC. However, when she suspected that ML was hunting MC out of revenge, she willed to sacrifice MC for her people's safety. Then when enemy threatened her with her husband's life, she willingly became their hostage, which in turned used to threatened MC.
And for the final punch, her kind husband was actually her half-blood brother in disguise. He used her as the host for his mother gu, which control MC, so finally MC's mother jumped off the cliff and killed herself....
Tbh, at the beginning, she kinda reminded me of those heroines (MC's enemy) in quick transmigration-theme novel.
Honestly out of all MC's parents, the Emperor was the most decent one. He doted her more than any of his biological children, and although there were few times when he wanted MC to die to protect the country's peace (when MC's holding secret weapon, or when the ex-husband went all cray cray and tried to kill ML, hence the country was almost at civil war), in the end he never had heart to do it.My fav kinda sad moments...MC and MC's ex-husband (GC) was building a canal, MC was using her handmade explosive for the first time to speed up the project. GC was attacked and in coma, suddenly they were call back by the Emperor. Because GC's condition, they had to delay their return. The Emperor kept insisting their return because his officials had been telling him that GC was just pretending to be in coma and that they were using the explosive to rebel.
MC escorted GC with a luxurious ship that she actually planned to give to the Emperor as his birthday's gift. The common people escorted the ship as they were all grateful for the canal building. As soon as MC arrived and when the Emperor saw GC's condition, he knew that those official had lied to him, he regretted ever doubting MC.
MC refused to hand the recipe for explosive and asked for 3 things. 1) GC to be restored of his crown prince position, 2) The Empress (GC's mother) to be called back from the temple and reinstated to her original position, 3) To help ML (GJ) and be more kind to him. MC then told the Emperor that originally she planned to give the ship to the Emperor, but she changed her mind, then she blew up the ship.
The ship was shredded to pieces, the Emperor tried desperately to salvage MC's remain while thinking that 'he do want the recipe for explosive but not at the expense of MC's life'.
MC managed to be saved by one of her admirer (he used to be one of white lotus's admirer who then realised her true face).
GC woke from his coma, and upon hearing about MC's death, he was in some kind of catatonic state, refusing to respond or do anything, until MC's admirer visited him and secretly told him that MC was still alive.
During the 3 years MC faked her death, the Emperor supported GC as the crown prince and allowed ML to amass a large number of military armies.
So GC was becoming more and more twisted. In the beginning, after MC stated for the first time that she would never fell in love, he even proposed to ML to share MC together. He would become the Emperor and ML would be the regent and then they would imprison MC in the palace, and he would allow ML to take MC's first (while thinking in his mind that later he would kill ML). Of course, possessive as ML was, he refused the proposal.
Then later after GC found out that MC had slept with ML, he drugged MC with aphrodisiac, but unfortunately for him, at that time MC was poisoned and the aphrodisiac caused the poison to flare up and she became mad. Hundreds of armies died before ML finally managed to stop her, and because of this incident, the Emperor who actually was just cured from a deadly poison, was dying (his poison became active again).
Finally as the last resort, MC visited GC and told him about her 2nd life. They actually had once married and he had failed her. So finally GC gave up.
After MC killed hundreds of armies, she understood that she wouldn't possible allowed to marry ML. She visited the Emperor and cried at his bed side because of his dying state. The Emperor told her that while he didn't blame her for that, he also couldn't allow her to be the cause of conflict between GC and ML, which would cause unrest in the country. He told MC that being buried alone was lonely and asked her to accompany him. MC agreed but asked for a day of being ML's wife. The Emperor agreed and then asked MC to wrote the decree and stamped it herself.
MC accompanied the Emperor everyday, and on the last day, after MC went back, the Emperor wrote another decree. Later, the Emperor was announced dead. MC shocked as she was just talking with the Emperor and during the funeral procession, she cried and also prepared herself with her death decree. When the decree was announced, it was actually not her death decree but the decree that stated that her marriage should still go on despite the Emperor's death. The Emperor also left her with another decree that stated that MC wasn't his child, so that MC could rightfully marry ML. MC decided to temporarily keep the latter decree though, as it could damage Emperor's reputation.My fav funny moments...MC was feared by many due to her knowledge of explosive, to prevent her being forced to reveal the recipe, she swore not to marry (so she would stay and became the power of the country instead of married to another country and became the risk). The Emperor fell guilty for her, so he onesidedly decided that MC should have a bunch of male pets. He began listing the criteria such as; the male must be talented; still allowed to join in officialdom; tolerate MC with another man; did not have any other woman beside MC; and in case of divorce, wasn't allowed to remarry, etc.
He put out those, and to his surprise, many applying for the position. He happily informed MC while they were eating together, which cause MC to almost spurted her food to his face. Then on the competition day, ML appeared and threatened all of the candidates. All were intimidated, except for one of MC's admirer (a Wang, but not of royal family). ML told him to go home and asked for his grandma's permission first before applying to be MC's male pet.
MC's residence was finished and she moved in. She was happy about the huge bed and started to roll around on the bed, but then she noticed there was something under the quilt. A naked man, shown up. Emperor's closest eunuch had taken initiative and send MC a male pet. MC recognised this man, as in previous life, she had met him. He turned out to be the prince (or vassal king) of another county. In her last life, MC had caught his sister, then his sister had unhesitatingly betrayed her own parents and brother.
This man, (LCWJ), tried to seduce MC to no avail. LCWJ tried to make MC embarrassed by stripping off his clothes, but MC showed no reaction and told him to continue. When he was all naked, MC approached him and tied him with nylon rope. Then MC took out candle and whip from her space, and started to interrogate him by whipping him and dropping the candle wax on him. LCWJ felt humiliated but also a little aroused
Anyway, he managed to escape later.
Then later, ML came to visit. MC scrambled around trying to hide the whip and the candle, but ML still found them. When ML asked, MC tried to divert his attention to no avail, so she promised to tell him later.
Before this, MC had seduced ML many times but ML still try to restrain himself as he wanted to give MC a grand wedding. MC gave him 2 pills and told him to use it when he couldn't endure anymore.
Anyway, MC was poisoned which caused her to be in berserk state. ML gave her the 2 pills thinking that they were some kind of antidote. So after taking the medicine, MC was still in berserk state, but in another direction. She started to rip off ML's and her clothes and then "attacked" ML. ML tried to restrain himself, but then MC took out her whip from her space, and everytime ML tried to restrain himself, MC would whip him. In the end, ML succumbed, and let himself "went with the flow", with MC on the top. Anyway, because MC consumed 2 pills, instead of one, so she had to do it many times before the effect went off.
