Glad those Bakiraka are dead. Gross little things. Also, the king sure has turned into a piece of shit lately. Might have been a bit foreshadowed by how heavily he leaned on The Band of the Hawks earlier though. Yes, we know the Hawks are good people, but a lot of the nobles were at least justified in their suspicions. It's been repeated several times that most mercenary bands are just groups of blood-thirsty murderers out to make a quick buck. Their success was a valid excuse to use them, but he knew nothing of their motives, backgrounds, or strategies in warfare. And he didn't care. He just wanted results.
Now that everything he's kept hidden about himself has come to light, he's burning from both ends, but his core motivation has stayed the same. hire whoever gives him the results he needs. Unfortunately, the people that could get the job done are the ones he's made an enemy of.
Also, waaay better explained here than in the show. I didn't quite understand why deflowering the princess was a good reason to imprison Griffith for a year and attempt to kill the entire Band of Hawks. Yes, it's certainly reason to punish, but it was definitely too severe. I think IRL, he would've just obligated them to marry. His whole, incestuous love of his daughter shtick makes a lot more sense now.
