Oh, one more thing... a positive critique I have is the arm tearing. People seem to be heavily panning it and complaining about it. But why?
The one woman Griffith has ever had an affection for is getting raped by his best friend, all while every true friend he's ever made has just been slaughtered. Is someone as stubborn as Griffith supposed to just sit there and watch while his arm has been clamped down on? No way! He's extorted all other options so of course someone with Guts' personality is going to resort to ripping their arm off. Especially when blinded by rage and adrenaline.
As far as Berserk logic goes, this was a realistic move, for both Guts and the plot.
It was established from the beginning (the prequel chapters) that Guts would one day have a mechanical arm. We already knew he was going to lose his arm so there's no need to act surprised. And now, the manga is finally explaining how he went about losing it. And I couldn't think of a better WAY for him to lose it.
Finally, a one-arm Guts adds to his bad-ass-ness.
From a production standpoint, you can't just go ripping off limbs off of every character (if you want) to add to their design and development... which is why you have to do it sparingly and correctly. If there's one thing the author DID do right during this leg of the manga, it's how they executed Guts' arm loss.
(The sound effects and gore also cement is pain tolerance.
This scene alone may just be enough to justify the manga's title. Heck, it may even be the reason for it.)
