Any physical object, be it living or inanimate, possesses a 'memory' since the beginning of its existence. He is able to manipulate that memory by inserting himself into that memory. He is not inserting himself physically into an alternate universe. There isn't any.
Tsukishima is boring. His suspenders should be in flames. :D
The problem is the object at hand has only existed for a few minutes, therefore its memory from the beginning of existence is a few minutes. Do you really think a few minutes is sufficient to set such a large trap, considering that Byakuya was present for all of this time? The specifics of his abilities do not matter - the point is he is able to insert himself into the past and physically affect the outside world by affecting the past. For example, his insertion into the block's "memory" resulted in the creation of a trap. This means that he is physically affecting the outside world and that his actions actually did occur, or the trap could not have been made. Following this, it can be deduced that Tsukishima's insertion into Inoue's memory meant that he actually defeated Aizen. Ichigo still has the memory that he defeated Aizen, but because Tsukishima's ability made it so that Tsukishima was the one who actually defeated Aizen, the world has been changed so that Tsukishima, not Ichigo, defeated Aizen. For some reason nobody else except the individuals were cut were affected by this change, meaning that everyone else was displaced into this new parallel world with their old memories in tact. Basically, Kubo has made another bullshit ability which doesn't logically make any sense.
