Now for who killed Cross.
For one it can be act of foolishness and Hitler says the truth. So then, its either Bookman or Link.
For second it can be a lie. the "noo how could you think i have done it" way of lie. Paired with the call fro USA, it seems quite possible.
I have the strong feeling that he shot himself instead of someone shooting him. Remember the 2 guards are there sleeping. Hard to get in & fire without a sound.
I doubt Cross would be that slow though. Remember he took out 3 Level 3 Akumas in almost an instant. He should be able to fire at least a shot at the "murderer".
BTW, I can't believe Innocence can really "leave" its host. Or is it something else?

Anyway am writing here again because i was rereading the last 20 chapters so i can remember what the hell is happening in D.Gray man and now that i checked them again it seems very likely that Cross could be the owner of the heart and staged all that thing so he can escape and go in hiding. Maybe he felt that central was getting too close to the truth. Remember what the Erl said a few chapters back?
It seems like the Erl allows the Order to exist only because he wants them to find the heart for him so he can eliminate it. The heart is the only thing the Erl sees as his real opponent. Heck the Erl may even have agents in central and in the order.
That would explain the words of the bookmark who said that is strange that the Erl didn't eliminate the order since he could do it if he wanted.
The Erl said that the owner of the heart is hiding his real identity and he maybe even using a fake innocence as cover. So Cross could very well been using that innocence with the gun and the woman as a cover for his real innocence that is the heart.
That would also explain the reason he knew the 14th(what better man of being a friend with him than the other guy who has a chance of killing the Erl, the owner of the heart) and why he doesn't care of leaving behind his gun and all that since he has another even more powerful innocence.

No he does not, since the mask was keeping the spells necessary for her suspended animation to fool the innocence.

For one, I doubt these guards were actually asleep ~_^ Most likely whoever came in, took care of them first. For second, its not that important, since shot WAS heard. Hell, even Allen heard it >_>
And shooting himself...riite and then, after he killed himself by blowing his head out, he casually fell through the window after two-three hours? Let's not forget the scene when his guards find him. There was someone else in the room too.
Now the slowness...Well that only proves that he could not shoot. Either the innocence WAS blocked, or Cross did not get a chance against the speed of his opponent.
Innocence leaves its owner when the owner dies. Then its converted back into cube by the order and awaits for new owner. Thats why Noahs precisely target the innocence itself, as to diminish the number of weapons available for Order.
