Hunter x Hunter Chapter 397 Discussion

How is this series always this good? Not a single bad arc and still going strong. My liking of chrollo just increased tenfold after this.



Also, it took all of my willpower to read this :c. Seeing the troupe so innocent and happy last chapter really made me struggle to start with this one.



Finally, we just saw the famous tree picture which togashi posted. Holy fuck.

Aha, so the spider in the troupe refers to them spinning a web for the criminals who killed Sarasa. Now it seems they have become "the very thing they set out to destroy", which while true, does not necessarily mean they have given up on finding those criminals. At least that's what I think. Or maybe they found those guys....

This chapter explain why Chrollo is the most terrifying out of them.

There's still plenty more things to learn about Meteor City, so let's hope this isn't the only flashback for it. maybe more events will be tied later with the Kurta Massacre.

Interesting chapter again. We're a step closer to finding out how this relates to the Kakin Mafia. The Troupe was started with honest good intentions, so I really am questioning whether or not the Kurta Clan massacre was really perpetrated by them fully..

Making art out of people seems like something Tserriednich would do. Anyways great chapter and I wonder if we'll know what the note said?

Best chapter in a while, beautiful stuff here. I hope people don’t see this is an attempt at redemption for the Phantom Troupe. It’s something more. Thank you for giving us this as I didn’t know I needed it, Togashi.

In Chapter 111, Gon asks Chrollo "How can you kill people who have nothing to do with you?". Chrollo initially answers that "It might be BECAUSE they have nothing to do with me", but he also says that it's hard to answer when he's asked like that. Over 20 years later, we finally know why he does that. The Phantom Troupe that we know of (criminals instead of voice actors) were formed after experiencing the loss of their friend Sarasa, who was murdered, and the 11 year old Chrollo will never forgive those murderers for what they did. Though there might be more to it, as there's also a note that Chrollo read and refused to tell anyone what the note said, so even us readers are kept in the dark about it (all we know is that the child abductors killed Sarasa for fun, as they had already met their quota). And of course, the Troupe all chose Chrollo to be their leader.



And now we know the backstory of the Phantom Troupe (well, I assume Formation Part 3 is the final chapter of this flashback, and if it is, I enjoyed this flashback a lot). And this was almost 9 years after I watched the Yorknew City arc for the first time in Hunter x Hunter (1999).
