What? Gon made a Nen contract to where he gave his potential in exchange of aging and gaining power. It's obviously the product of Nen, he couldn't do that without it.

ET is a genetic ability that allows him more power, more nen, and more hatsu types. That's what I was saying. ET itself is not Nen but it gives you beter access to Nen. Your HDMI capble is not an HD screen but it connects you to one. Whether you do have an HD screen is up to you, but what HDMI inherently do is connect you to one, they don't care wether you buy one or not. ET is like that cable. It's not a nen power in itself.
Yes, Gon's contract was Nen. BUT... were his muscles made of Nen? His liver? Stomach maybe? Like was Gon just some emission nen clone? Was he all nen? The Nen simply forced his muscles to grow, the muscles themselves were not Nen.
As such, the Dolphin Nen simply affected his eyes, this proves in no way that his eyes were a nen product.

You just proved my point, it works on a progressive basis, the more restrictive it is, the more boost you get, there is no direct personal contact like "Hello Mr.Nen, give me power please", the Nen is basically part of the soul, the more resolve and focus and restriction you put on yourself, the closer you are to achieving a goal. Nen is not some third-person character.

Having Scarlet Eyes does NOT mean your life is shortened. I read what you said, and can kind of understand where you're coming from, but that's just not how it works. Kurapika life being shortened is a DIRECT RESULT of Emperiors Time, which is an NEN ability.
I'll try to break it down and hopefully you'll understand:
What you are calling "genetics" is the Scarlet Eyes themselves, which Kurapikas clan posses. What these Scarlet Eyes do is allow, or rather, force the user to become a specialist upon activation. This is where the genetics part of it ends. They have no choice but to become a specialist when the eyes are activated, so everybody in the Kurta clan, once their eyes become Scarlet, are specialist as long as their eyes continue to remain scarlet. Once they turn back to their normal color, they go back to being whatever Hatsu they were born with. NOW, Emperors Time is an ABILITY as a result of his Specialist form, and THATS what causes the shortened lifespan. What I'm saying is, Emperor's Time is an ability Kurapika created, its a move he crafted COMPLETELY separate from his Scarlet Eyes and Specialist form, HOWEVER, its an ability he created that he can only USE while in his Scarlet form. This might be why you think shortened life is a DIRECT consequence of having these genetic Scarlet Eyes, which isn't the case. You would be implying Kurapikas whole clan would he losing their lifespan at an increible rate everytime their eyes turn Scarlet, which we know if you haven't trained yourself like Kurapika has, happens everytime your under extreme conditions of emotion. All Scarlet Eyes do is make you a specialist. That's it.
What other Specialist do we know? Oh, that's right. Chrollo. Chrollo is a Specialist as well. All a Specialist is, is a Hatsu that doesnt fall under the catergory of one of the other Hatsus, such as Enhancer, Emitter, etc. They're unique abilities. Now, Chrollo's Specialist Ability is that he can steal other people's tecniques and add them to his own arsenal, so long as he has his book open. That's his UNIQUE Specialist Ability. He can steal others powers. Kurapika's UNIQUE Specialist Ability is Emperor's Time. What is Emperor's Time? Emperor's Time allows him to be 100% effective at ALL Hatsu's, when normally one is only 100% effective at their own Hatsu, and while they are capable of using other Hatsu's, those Hatsu's that are different from the one they are born with are severely weakened, depending on how far away they are from the users natural Hatsu catergory on the Nen Chart. Emperor's Time is an ability that basically says fuck that rule, and lets him use every Hatsu freely at its full potential. Kinda like he just jailbroke the Nen Chart. So yeah. Debate over.
Tl;Dr - Scarlet Eyes are genetic. They make a person a Specialist, which can be anything under the Sun that's not an already established Nen category. Emperor's Time is NOT genetic. It's an NEN ability unique to Kurapika that he created himself
Ttl;Dr - Emperor's Time is an ability Kurapika created himself. However, it cannot be utilized without him activating his Scarlet Eyes. The condition he set on the use for Emperor's Time is the only reason it can do the things it does. (That condition being every second of use is 1 hour shaved off his life)
