Hunter x Hunter Chapter 315 Discussion

An anti-climatic end to an arc. Is it just me, or did the author just give up on the current arc, which is crappy, and decided move on and do the next arc, which I think is a good move because the Chimera arc is beyond saving ?

Lol, I think I lost all respect for the author (temporarily) when he decided to give GON a deus ex machina power up. Call it  Kyuubi mode, if you may, or the Ichigo-mask-mode-in-early days XD

I really hope the author can get his mojo back and put HXH back on top again

And I love how there's no mention of the ants or hunters on the news broadcast. In the same way we see humans turn a blind eye to poverty and violence, humans also don't care about the real truth. They don't care about the extermination of an intelligent species or of the sacrifices that the human hunters did. It's best to just keep things at the status qou and blame the evil dictator that was already seen as evil.

Yeah, you put that beautifully

Too much too say but I can say that most people either love the chimera ant arc or hate it. I actually loved it especially in the beginning and I like seeing it end a little differently than it would of in most shounens. That's why I like Togashi, he has his own style with his manga. Anyways I totally forgot a lot of things that happened (as Tchako said) throughout the manga so I will be reading it from start to finish. Also who the hell is diego and gyro(i searched gyro in the characters tab of this website and only saw a gyro from one piece).

Also guys  I hope you realized that atleast Togashi's drawings are getting better and not half assed anymore like they used to be. I was happy to see that it didn't look like a manga I could of drawn better.

I also liked this arc better than greed island because of the seriousness in it and really want to see what happens to Gon(mr.180 personality). I mean, really, when *SPOILER To those of you who aren't caught up with one piece* Ace died, you didn't see Luffy going crazy and wanting revenge like that. I thought Gon was the most kind hearted and good natured character ever made in a shounen but he really did surprise me there. I hope his form isn't like a hollow, or dbz power up that he can use again besides that time because that would seem really typical although when i think way further back in the history of shounen, correct me if im wrong, Togashi was the first to have a character with a alterego in him back in Yu Yu Hakusho where Yusuke transformed and all. I mean DBZ had saiyans but there not really like a nine tailed fox and hollow possessions with their evil nature. Than again, that transformation seemed more on the DBZ side.

Anyways sorry for the long rant. Just happy the arc ended and the anime is being animated the same time when one piece's two year time skip starts.

That was a nice chapter.. now we can finally say that this whole ant arc is over... but I kind of feel like the chairman died for nothing though.... anyway now its time to see gon and kilua already... and im sure that was gin at the end of the chapter

You feel like he died for nothing Because this whole arc was kind of pointless and bad. It really felt out of place.

The "swept under the rug" expression at the end of the chapter kinda made me smile, because it feels a bit like Togashi did that with the arc and the conclusion.

Let's face it, Chimera Ants started horribly (ESPECIALLY if you were reading the first chapters when they were released in Jump, and Togashi was sick, basically letting his 2 years old daughter draw for him). It started to pick up a bit after the first hiatus, what with the Spiders having their moment and the plot starting to make sense again.

But let's face it, Togashi was obviously tired of the story after a while, and the foundations were too shaky to give a satisfactory conclusion. What about, well, basically everyone fucking involved ? Was it really worth it spending all those pages showing us what happened to the lobster-man and the little girl (I don't even remember her in the story) when we have no idea what happened to Knuckle, Gon, and all the others ? What about the remains of the Royal Guard ?

(Or, if you want to be a bitch, what about the second child of the Queen ? What about Leolio and Kurapika saying they were coming as back-up ? Guess everyone forgot about that, but can't really blame it)

It's not a bad thing to give a few details about what happens to secondary characters, but 20 pages dedicated only to 5 of them, especially when they are this non-relevant, feels like a waste, especially after all this hiatus.

Now, I really hope Togashi rushed that because he could not wait to start the next arc, which obviously will be good and please, NOT interrupted every six months again. I have still faith in him, but he really should not mess that one up.

You are right on him seeming to just try to put an end to this arc.

I have my doubts about him rushing because of a new arc though. The guy still draws awful at this point and seems like he can't go back to like he was again(i don't know what he had but if he was gonna get healed he was gonna get healed by now).

It's very possible that after this arc ends we will here about another hiatus and then never see HunterxHunter again. Maybe his just putting a little of a finish into an open arc and cal it quits.

i have no clue what is going on here. wtf killed the king? who the fuck is diego? what is this i dont even

The king was killed by the old man and that super explosion he made. The kings servants managed to save him but it was temporary because that bomb was based on some flower or something that had poison. So even though he managed to recover his body the poison still continued slowly killing him.

Most comments here are about how disappointing of an end this chapter was to the arc. But yeah, it's not the end. Most of what people complained on here are fixed in the coming chapters. And it's interesting how people can call out plotholes of the arc at the same time as they say that they don't remember some of the characters or events. But I think a lot of the complaints are simply for the unconventional ending.

Anyway, about the actual chapter. I really like the way we see some of the ants go their own way. The reveal that that little ant was Reina was pretty sweet.

And I love how there's no mention of the ants or hunters on the news broadcast. In the same way we see humans turn a blind eye to poverty and violence, humans also don't care about the real truth. Well, Gyro is the founder and former king of the Neo Green Life(NGL) autonomous region. He only appeared in a single shot frame in chapter 203, where he was seen wearing a very large hood that covered his entire face. His location after the queen`s death is unknown, but it is believe that he is trying to rebuild his empire again. Welfin however still believes that Gyro is alive, and is determined to find him. For Diego, hmmm... I'm not sure really. I can't remember ever reading that name, hehe. (^_~)

Yeah, I'm also glad that the episode premiere of the Hunter x Hunter's anime reboot is on the same day (October 2) as the start of One Piece's 2-year time skip.

Really liked this arc very much.

Going through this whole emotional rollercoaster of Gon and Killuas friendship and gons connection to Kaito, the loyalty and individual progression of the royal guard characters and the immense progression that the king made were all an amazing experience to follow.

In the end the King turned more human than ant while Netero died the death of an ant for making the decision of an ant instead of listening to the king.

I can't even express how much I loved the turn-around of Gons character when he faced Pitou. That uncomparable situation where you're facing your own moral values when they mix with an internal struggle of hatred and injustice who force you to be on the edge of your sanity cause you can no longer decide what's supposed to be the right choice. It turned the typical childish and dumb shounen character of gon into a far more formed and defined personality.

This person did the most horrible torture to a person close to you and took every dignity from him and then you're forced into a situation where the perpetrator is in a helpless state and dares to ask for mercy to save a person close to him. The most selfish kind of request in the most unfitting situation and gon would just like to kill pitou that instant but then there's this innocent person that's close to the perpetrator and has nothing to do with all of this. The immense injustice to have that person die just because of your revenge, yet Pitou who did the same to your relative should not feel the same kind of pain that he inflicted upon you? An unbelievable situation they put the protagonist into there that reflected the feelings of Gon in that situation really well. I had actually never expected for the main character to go through such a dramatic event. The same for characters like Welfin, Morau, Knuckle and others. This whole arc shows for me that Yoshihiro really understands a thing or two about characters personalities and how they develop.

And the death of the 3 royal guards were really beautifully arranged. In the end they and the king were all still just ants destroyed by the devilish human invention and it was actually more sad for me to see them die than Netero. So much inhumane power displayed by the ants but in the face of that chemical superweapon there was really no longer any difference between ant and human and the king himself displayed more of a desirable human attitude than Netero did. I was glad the king gained his memory back before his time came and spend his life with his loved one instead of going on a senseless rampage to oppress all living beings on earth.

I actually wonder at this point if it's even correct to still call this a shounen manga with all this far above average in-depth content served to the readers in place of where the usually optically astounding battles take place.

Very well said.
