Great chapter!!!

Freezer is alive and kill Piccolo and Krilin, and Goku full of anger wake up the "Super-Saiyan" power inside himself!!!

Great chapter. From the comments here, maybe it helps that I haven't watched the anime?



The one big flaw is Freezer's return should have happened on a page turn. What was Toriyama thinking?



Anyway, Freezer is seemingly unstoppable and Piccolo and Kuririn quickly suffer the consequences. Piccolo died pretty recently and hasn't really done anything this arc so whatever. Kuririn though, that feels.



And super saiyan transformation! It's a classic. I think it's done really well, and I like it as the cliff hanger, as the reader really doesn't know what's going on.

                        I was imagining the transformation of super saiyin to be more dramatic but it was just two panels of the manga LOL

wow, so many negative comments on the manga because the anime did it better. lol.

while i agree the anime (both DBZ and DBK, though DBZ made it much more tense) did it better in the anime, i had a lot of thinking in this chapter how this was yet the best in this arc but yet to amaze.



start with the "happy moments" toriyama doesn't let any moment of waste to just progress to plot. he realized that frieza appearing all over again could be the best cliffhanger here, but no, toriyama stayed true to the concept he intended in this chapter, moving from couple of themes to another, first the thought that they have maybe finally frieza was dead for good, than when he appeared and injured picollo and killed kuririn the reader will be "what??@?", another point of possible cliffhanger. but no, he ended it in kinda rushing the super sayan transforming to make the reader, once again, to think that there's hope. truly epic chapter that makes the reader excited to see more of it, masterpiece in it's own writing.



true that the super sayan transforming could be lot epic like it had been mention, in the anime, but i think toriyma just wanted to pass the above feeling in 19 manga pages. pointless to say he did it very well. and though we all saw how the anime did it well, the 20min format of the anime sure is allowed to make the transforming well. it doesn't mean the manga is less good, but that the anime did great justice to the manga to make our most rememberable moment of our old childhood anime.



so, i still can't feel people getting "cheated" by the manga because they just want their beloved moment to be exactly as the manga. i'm delighted with that, toriyama did great job in the story and pace here, and it couldn't be less good chapter without what had been done.

I was expecting something to make a huge impact, but it was kinda lame that Goku turned into SS just like that.

Wow, the anime definitely did it better. I like the full page shot but that transformation was waaay too quick.

Two pretty iconic full page panels, Frieza's return and Goku's Super Saiyan. I like that they look they're looking right at each-other, and I also like the Goku's full page happens on the right page while Frieza happens on the left page, the manga itself seemingly drawing on the opposite nature of there arrivals, one for despair and one for hope.



That stated, yeah Goku's transformation into a Super Saiyan is a tad anti-climatic after all the builds. I do think the full page panel was intended to give it more weight but the suddenness of it just doesn't compare to how it went down in the anime in terms of hype. Still, this chapter is a pretty great turnaround. There's a good sense of finality here, Gohan and Krillin in the previous chapter even helped a bit so all of them played a role in defeating Frieza, a Spirit Bomb from several plants seemed an appropriate finishing move to defeat a galactic emperor such as Frieza, and Krillin even gets a nice closure joke with Bulma so it works as a pretty effective fake out, though I doubt many would be faked out, especially with the notoriety of Super Saiyan's in culture (though in fairness, at the time, it's not like there was anything to say Super Saiyan featured a transformation per se [though obviously in an arc loaded with plenty of transformation, it was bound to have one]). At least dramatically, it still holds up I think.
