Here comes the mighty Krillin!

though to be one of my likeable DBZ characters, his introduction feels kinda empty.

After a lifetime of calling him Krillin, I'm not going to be referring to him as anything else. That goes true for most of Viz's translations here, but I suppose I just felt the need to point it out now since Krillin is the first semi-major departure here (major departure more in the fact, the he's a more prominent character than a Nimbus Cloud).



Anyway alright chapter, some good gags, mainly liked Roshi's "Actually I'm just bald" after Krillin explained that they shave hair to help their ki. It was basically the only time I liked Roshi in this chapter, but I'm glad the series gives him his just due with him getting punched by the Mermaid (which the Mermaid herself was a pretty good twist to the "she's only wearing a shirt" set-up). Even if I don't like him himself, Toriyama still gets good jokes out of him.

Yes, Kuririn finally appeared.

Like the Pilo gang introduction I liked Kuririn in the anime better, more build up here he just shows up in his little boat and was like can I be your student in manga. Whist the anime showed him wrecking trees in a jungle and running through a scorching desert, combined with Kuririn landing head first in the beach when he arrives. It gives him this nice mix of humour and making him feel like someone who can be real competition for Goku. We know it doesn't amount to anything but still.

Krillin enters the scene! He might be the character which has probably the most different ways to spell his name (in the italian translation by Star Comics I’m reading its Crilin).

The mermaid was pretty cute tho
