I like it too, despite never having read Gintama. Guess I'm in the minority *shrugs* It makes me want to go pick up Gintama though, since 2chers have been calling this a rehash of Gintama so if I like this I guess I'll like Gintama :)
Anyway, I thought it was better than Bench, but one big peeve I had with it was how damn long it was. Not the page length, but how he was cramming so much into that 50 pages that it became sooo wordy. I was going to read it raw but I saw how many words there were and decided to wait for a scanlation...
Hmm I didn't really see the rehash of gintama. It was more using an existing delinquent genre and adding a cyber twist.
But if you liked it you will definitely like gintama, he has the same sense of humour, nice artwork too. The story itself may have been different, but it definitely follows the same structure as Gintama.
Changes to "normal" life, with main character being a legend from the past generation? Check
Strong female lead? Check (though the connection this time isn't too much)
Shinpachi like character (not sure how to describe this)? Check
Have some sort of past war? Check
Same style of comedy? Check
Extremely wordy? Check (I'd actually say Gintama is wordier, but this was still a very long read).
Theres probably more similarities too... Anyway, if the formula works great, why not keep using it?
Like Gintama, the form of humour would work much better in anime form, but it was still a great read. Hopefully some studio picks up these one shots, and makes a 6 ep OVA with 1 episode per one shot or something.
