I suppose I'll have to repeat myself.
Towards the middle of the chapter, after the history of Shimon and Vongola was revealed, it was stated that both ring groups were of equal power. Meaning that at the point where both rings are at full power, the rings are equal.
In the future arc, the Vongola rings potentials were fully unlocked by the first guardians themselves. In fact, Primo went so far as to remove the limiter on Tsuna's ring. Thus increasing Tsuna's power ten fold, and giving him the capability to defeat Byakuran, a being so powerful that he could traverse dimensions and inherit his other selves power.
Now, think about it. Tsuna and his guardians had to go through all kinds of training in order to use the full capabilities of their rings. They have gone through training in the future and back. They even wield weapons not of their time, which increase their power even more.
You're going to tell me, that people that have never been able to use these rings, people that have only heard of these rings through stories passed down by their elders, people that have not gone through severe training are able of using these rings so easily? Not only that, but are able to defeat the Vongola rings, BREAK them, with only 1/7th of their power when it was stated earlier that they were equal? Umm, I don't think so.

people seem to think the shimon's power comes from the rings but i don't think that's the case. i think the shimon already had the powers and weapons they used and the rings simply amplify that strength like the vongola rings do.
I'll tell you why you're wrong. It just would not make sense if what you're saying was true. The rings were only at 1/7th of their power when they were unlocked. No matter what type of amplification it was, since the rings are in fact equal, it would not have been much at all. Now you must think about how fast, how easily, they defeated the Vongola group. This means that the Shimon group started off already stronger than the Vongola group at that point. Thus meaning they probably would have put up a fight, even won, without the rings unlocked.
Now, with this in mind. Since it can be determined that without the rings the Shimon group are more powerful than the Vongola group, where the HELL were they when Byakuran was taking over?
You just witnessed them utterly defeating Tsuna, whom could beat Byakuran. Yet, they are no where in sight during the future arc. You can't begin to tell me that with them being THAT strong, they couldn't do anything when Byakuran was taking over. Hell if that's the case, the Shimon family could have defeated Byakuran by themselves.
Rendering the future arc pointless.
Now does that make sense? Of course not. That's why all of that power they have during the fight MUST have come from the rings. 1/7th of the power at that. Again, making what the writer said at the beginning a complete contradiction of what he's doing now.
I want to see how this will be remedied. Breaking the rings was probably a good move on the writers part, since now using the excuse that "Oh the rings actually do have some more power that hasn't been unlocked" won't be used.
I think that building new rings, or going to the past seem pretty reasonable.
