There is a point for it. But most of the time, it was shown in Gantz as a collection of non-sense one liners that add nothing to the plot. At this point, since Oku has shown the scene with such regularity, it has become just as annoying as Tae's tears.
i just finished reading Kamisama no Iutoori which is similar to Gantz in that it includes survival games. It also included people posting stuff online but did it in a much clever way, not every single chapter like gantz. It develops the world around it but this is too much in my opinion.
