He never really fucked it up, considering if you look at it objectively having Gray turn completely dark all the way back in Avatar would have been WAY too soon and is better suited for an end game plotline that makes him lose himself and try to kill Natsu/END. There never was a conclusion to the Gray kills Frosche plotline either, meaning that he never closed the door on this plotpoint.
Come on are we REALLY trying to defend the "end" of avatar "arc" now? Really? Seriously?
Mashima did great foreshadowing and build up and it all amounted too "And then his affection for his nakama thwarted it all randomly and then they all went and beat up those guys and punched out a god, okay okay next arc!".
(and I know "it was just named god" and etc, that's not the point, that just adds to the anticlimatic ridiculousness)
I know you have no faith and like to nitpick literally everything, but what would you honestly say if it does go in the direction you don't think is possible? Will you eat your own words?
You mean like how totally would kill Gajeel because omg this is totally going to happen? I mean he got such a nice farewell chapter and a teary "death scene". Must happen amirite? Its not like Mashima would just make Gajeel appear fine the next chapter as if nothing happened, riiight? :^)
Or how totally Lucy is relevant now? I mean she got this super awesome scene with Aquarius sacrifice and she got new badass powers. Its not like Mashima would literally sacrifice her entire plot, trivialize Aquarius sacrifice and then only use Lucy's new powers for fanservice and comedy :^)
Or how totally at least half of Spriggans MUST be at least decent villains? Its not like Mashima would make a main villain who can be defeated by boobs :^)
Or okay spriggans sucked but August just went all tatoo strange form, I mean this will totally lead to SOMETHING happening, right? Its not like it will be a big pile of nothing? :^)
I can hope that I find one million dollars at my doorstep. does not mean it will happen.
With Mashima, he promises that you WILL find one million dollars at your doorstep. Yet what you actually find is a messy pile of used toilet paper.
This arc has been absolutely nothing but Mashima messing up again and again and trivializing what is going on again and again the seconds after it starts to matter. At this point it would take a fucking miracle. Expecting something impactful to happen in this arc is the same as expecting Nardo to get a decent outfit was in Nardo. At this point even entertaining the thought that "something dark and impactful will happen" seems to instinctively cause some sort of defensive reaction for me in that I literally physically find myself laughing.
