To me, the shrinking wounds thing isn't an asspull or a deus ex machine, it's a straight up impossibility. Because in order to shrink wounds in a way that helps to close them or minimize the damage, she'd have to be replicating cells around the wound. That isn't shrinking anymore, that's healing magic.
Given the context of the ability and Hiros probable knowledge of biology and physics,(he was an F student and a delinquent) it´s not meant to be understood. It´s not meant to have a scientific concept behind it´s explanation. The reason that there´s a distinction between Scifi and Fantasy is that Scifi tries to explain it´s developments with scientific truths by blowing the required dimensions out of proportion. Usually it´s the required energy thas not taken into account.
Technically it´s possible to build the Lightsabers from Star Wars if you´d attach a nuclear plant as an energy source.
It´s technically possible to create Dinosaurs with enough budget.
It´s not possible however to create mass out of Energy. Alot of science fiction utliizes it in form of "instert name" kenesis. Firing fireballs out of your hands is a concept that Scifi borrowed from the Fantasy genre, which is why they´re often thrown into the same category.
This is magic and similar to how Ultears time magic could conveniently only be applied to non living objects her ability just happens to coveniently be capable of shrinking holes and air.The question remains, does the universe of FT not inhabit any bacteria? How about corpses can she send corpses back in time? They aren´t alive anymore. Why can it be applied to wood but not corpses.
All Í´m saying is, if this did´t broke your immersion back then than it´s not the situation you´re complaining about, but something else.
