For some reason i'm reminded of way back when Laxus attacked the guild and there was a barrier up which stated that anyone over the age of 80 could not pass and Natsu and Gajell couldn't pass through it. I thought the spell just now might not work correctly on Natsu but he still turned into a kid.

my guess is it was igneel's voice, and igneel was hiding in the volcano where erza went!
