The more I think of it the more I am certain Atlas will die saving Natsu. Think about it. For one this guy cannot survive the arc so he needs to be removed somehow.



Second, this guy has already marked Natsu as a dear friend thanks to being Igneel's son. So it's not hard to imagine that he would sacrifice himself for Natsu.



Third: Dragon Slayers get stronger with Dragon Blood. But as we see here, Natsu is never going to kill a dragon especially not ones that show even a shred of kindness. So where else would he get his blood power up if not from Atlas' sacrifice. This would also match up with Mashima's warning that we are going to cry.



And fourth: Natsu called him uncle meaning he is already very important to Natsu. That's pretty much a deathflag for sure right there.

Well he didn't exactly eat Atlas but...yey dragon mount! Fus-ro-dah!

If Mashima said tragedy will happen in future chapters I think the ultimate thing he can pull on us is as follows:



Lucy finds diary --> Diary says future lucy lied to them about being imprisoned and she knew what was going to happen in this timeline all along since she is the future version of the current lucy. It will say that lucy will have to go back in time to maintain this positive future for her nakama and die like we saw future lucy die in chapter 324 or whichever. At this point some NatsuxLucy stuff happening is highly likely before she uses the gate without natsu knowing.



Afterwards, because this is a shonen, it will show that future lucy didn't die, and was near-death, and Ur healed her with her time reversal thing.



If this happens. I want cookies for calling it. I think this plotline will be a helluva lot better than the fire dragon dying or any other fairy tail members dying.

THe dragon can easily teach Natsu new moves and give him a power up or something, he doesn't need to die, and the dragon just arrived, it won't be much of a tragedy if everyone expects him to be fodder.

Dragon Blood is what makes a Dragon Slayer stronger. Natsu doesn't have YEARS to train with Atlas like he had with Igneel.
