At last, the plot thickens!
The look on Zero's face in the hallway was absolutely heart-breaking. At this point in the story I can honestly say that I don't care who Yuuki ends up with so long as Zero can find some peace with himself.
A few of my own personal speculations and musings:
1. I suspect that Zero's increasing blood lust is largely due to his feelings for Yuuki -- the only person's blood, according to Zero, he ever desired. Noteworthy is that, according to the manga, a vampire's hunger can only be satisfied by the blood of his/her loved one. Assuming that Zero has stabilized, he shouldn't be falling to level E -- though, Miss Hino has been very ambiguous on this topic. I imagine that Zero is confusing his "disgusting" desire for Yuuki's blood with a natural vampiric phenomena.
2. From the way the manga has progressed, I largely suspect that the OTP will be ZeroxYuuki. To be brief, a few of my reasons:
* Throughout the series, Yuuki has expressed that she has a more natural relationship with Zero than with Kaname.
* Yuuki appears to be more "herself" around Zero. In contrast, Yuuki resembles a fine porcelain doll when near Kaname.
* Yuuki and Zero continue to agonize over their mixed feelings for one-another, even this late in the story. As the story progresses, their feelings for one-another appear to be maturing.
* Kaname is Yuuki's ancestor. He has already lived, loved, and lost. While Yuuki and Zero are both young with so much to live for, Kaname has continuously expressed that he doesn't have the same "will to live" -- so to speak. From my point of view, Kaname sincerely loves Yuuki and the opportunity she has given him to enjoy life with loved ones. However, I don't see him as a character who will make it through to the end.
* I have my suspicions that Kaname plans to wipe out the line of Purebloods (save Yuuki). From what we have seen, it appears to me that we are in the "last age of the purebloods" -- for lack of a better term. Without the purebloods to lead them, I see the vampire society becoming responsible for their actions and moving in a direction of political control similar to humans. Instead of lusting after the blood of purebloods or fearing their power, the vampires will be forced to work toward a better future on their own through more righteous means. Yuuki is obviously not interested in leading anyone. I'm rambling a bit but I would be happy to explain my thoughts more clearly if anyone is interested.
* Etc. I have more reasons for believing the way that I do but I'm too lazy to list them at the moment.
3. Sara will likely attempt to become the wedge between Yuuki and Kaname.
4. One of the two will occur in the near future: Zero will drink Yuuki's blood or she will drink his.
All-in-all, it was a good chapter. I'm a bit disappointed by the continued ambiguities expressed by each of the characters *sighs* but such is the nature of VK. It was a very well-rounded chapter that gave us some insight into how many of our characters are progressing.
I agree with you on number1. I, too, think Zero is really wanting Yuuki's blood, which brings me to your number 4. I think it will be Zero drinking Yuuki's and not the other way around. The scene is definitely set for a blood drinking session imo. I don't think it will be Yuuki since she promised Kaname. On to number 2. I think Kaname is going to wipe out the purebloods as well. I hope it doesn't end up with Kaname giving his life to turn Yuuki human though. I'd like to know why you think Yuuki isn't interested in leading anyone though? She wants humans to co-exist with vampires, and in her way now is trying to lead by example. At least that's what I think. I have no opinion on your number 3 :)
