Lol, Thats pretty funny that Thorfinn accidentaly goes out to sea with them, But yeah... I'm getting sick and tired of the flashbacks now.

Maybe you should read Bleach, that has lots of pointless fighting.  Vinland Saga has a STORY, with CHARACTERS that have MOTIVATIONS.

Seriously.  It's not even a long flashback.

I agree that the flashbacks are not that long and I find them more interesting than the story at start to begin with. But I wouldn't say that this is the most thought provoking manga story-wise...

for me it's nice and the approach of the historic side is really well done and quite thoroughly searched, but for me it's far from a masterpiece.. but hey that's just my view of things. :)

It's nothing too special and more likely something we gloss over as readers but I enjoy the little personal bits about the characters and their relationships with each other. For example how Thors didn't know what his wife should tell Thorfinn (or how he should put it into words) and she just understood him without words.

Another moment like this was when Thors discovered his son and before he could take any action, Thorfinn was so fascinated and focused on the sea & tried to make his father aware of its beauty; so that Thors didn't have a choice but to calm down and accept it somehow (not to say that he won't scold him afterwards)

I liked the visualization of how Thors is going to go into battle alone.
