“Witches” ―――the only remaining unknown entity on a continent where demonic beasts and sorcery have all but disappeared.
Jig, a mercenary, has set out to defeat one of these beings that have been feared since ancient times. After a fierce battle, he narrowly emerges victorious, but at the same time, he loses any reason for killing the witch. As he is about to leave without finishing the job, the witch makes a request of him. She desires a life free from being pursued by anyone.
After struggling over it, the mercenary decides to accept the request. He feels that it would be difficult to fulfill the request on this continent, where people have a strong aversion to witches, so he makes the decision to embark on a voyage to an alien continent that has been known to exist for some time but has only become accessible in recent years.

"It's a lighthearted tale. There's absolutely no harem element; I fail to understand what the previous reviewer was upset about. True, there are female characters present, but they're merely supporting roles with no romantic entanglements with the main character. Initially, the MC seemed almost detached from them. Some world-building has taken place, but it's not extensive.
The dynamic between the witch and the mercenary is genuinely entertaining to read. I'm eager to see more of this engaging interaction."
In this version, I've maintained the essence of the original message while providing a clearer and more concise translation into English. The tone remains positive and the key points are highlighted.
The witch, who has lived secluded for ages, possesses immense power but behaves like a naive country girl. The mercenary protagonist is incredibly strong and has flexible morals, taking on jobs for pay without political implications.
However, the execution falls short. The story attempts to be mature but comes across as shallow. The main character is bland, and conflicts feel forced, with enemies easily defeated due to lack of development. For instance, disputes arise over misunderstandings, which escalate into fights with no real substance.
Three consecutive major conflicts followed a similar pattern, making the plot predictable and unsatisfying. The lack of well-developed world-building, supporting characters, or meaningful events further detracts from the story. As for a harem, there isn't one in the traditional sense; no female characters, including the main female character, express genuine romantic interest. Instead, the author introduces numerous uninteresting supporting females who owe the male character, which feels contrived.
The story itself was a delightful surprise, providing explanations for various aspects that other authors often take for granted, assuming readers can infer the context through familiar tropes. I particularly enjoyed how the author delved into the reasons behind adventurer presence and the impact they had on the new continent – it was fascinating content.
The narrative primarily revolves around Jig, offering a more serious tone. However, the author skillfully inserts occasional humorous moments that contrast with the gravity of the situation, making them all the more amusing. Siasha's perspective, when explored, is lighter but no less intense, leaving readers to interpret her character either as formidable or charming in her own way.
In conclusion, the main characters' cold demeanor towards enemies is striking. Kudos to the translator and the author for crafting such an exceptional piece. I'm eagerly anticipating more from this series.
The narrative structure and pacing were inconsistent, with numerous time skips that should have been used to introduce and develop characters and their relationships within the first ten chapters. The story's theme, initially revolving around a witch seeking a peaceful life and relying on the protagonist, a mercenary, for guidance, seemed promising. I had anticipated a journey reminiscent of "Spice and Wolf."
However, the story devolved into a shallow series of time jumps, leading up to a supposed sanctuary, only to potentially become a generic "adventurer quest" afterwards. Judging solely based on the English translation, which I briefly glanced at, the translator did manage to improve some aspects of the source material, acting as an editor.
Unfortunately, as I prefer to stick with the original, I can only conclude that this is a bland and poorly written WN, not worth further investment of time.
Unfortunately, the narrative took a turn for the worse when the focus shifted too heavily on racism, which became tiresome at that point. The final straw came in the last chapter I read, where the protagonist inexplicably crumbled like a weak character solely for comedic effect, despite not being at fault in the situation. Given my experience with Japanese novels, I decided against continuing. Additionally, the presence of a harem element further deterred me. Nevertheless, the translation itself was commendable.
