The fact that Fuuma is ten years old lingers in the back of my mind, yet by the midpoint of the manga, readers often set this aside, focusing instead on character development and the narrative. This indicates that the plot succeeds in emphasizing the dynamics of a relationship between opposites.
That’s not to say the age gap isn't acknowledged. However, the essence of Fuuma and Satoko's feelings for each other, along with the reactions they elicit, mirrors those found in any other shoujo manga. Fuuma occasionally recognizes that despite his mental maturity, his physical age occasionally hinders him. These moments reflect more on his mindset and identity rather than his actual age. Fans familiar with the "tall girl, short guy" trope in manga will find comparable challenges. Age becomes a minor hurdle in the larger picture, serving more as a backdrop for character building.
With that said:
I have some reservations about the ART. There are instances of overly dramatic expressions—exaggerated mouths that consume chins, absent noses, and teardrops resembling rivers—that I would have preferred to be depicted more seriously. Satoko's unique way of expressing emotions through her droopy eyes contrasts sharply with the average heroine. It takes time to adjust to, but these features enhance her personality, creating a stark contrast with Fuuma's upward-slanted eyes and sharp features. This visual distinction underscores how different these two characters are and highlights their need to collaborate and overcome their differences.
In terms of CHARACTER, Fuuma stands out as the most developed, both mentally and in terms of backstory. Some supporting characters boast deeper psychological development, while others are rich in backstory. Satoko, meanwhile, is primarily developed mentally and emotionally, leaving much desired in terms of her backstory. Additionally, some supposedly "major" side characters receive little attention. Despite these aspects, they didn’t deter me from rating this story a 10.
It revolves around Satoko, a 17-year-old high school girl. She is an optimistic and cheerful individual living a typical life filled with school, friends, and the prospect of love. Her father passed away when she was young, leaving her family in financial hardship. Despite this, Satoko remains joyful, navigating life with a smile and making the best of every situation. Her mother works for a company owned by an old family friend.
One day, while enjoying her bento with friends, a wild dog attacks her. Enter Fuuma, a 10-year-old boy who heroically saves her from the dog. In gratitude, Satoko offers him some of her bento. What she doesn’t know is that Fuuma is the head of Wakudera Corporation and her prearranged fiancé, as decided by their parents.
Later, upon returning home, Satoko finds Fuuma waiting outside her apartment, which is now empty with her mother gone. A man arrives to escort her, claiming her mother awaits at their new home. They arrive at a grand mansion where Satoko reunites with Fuuma and learns the truth: her mother’s friend’s company went bankrupt, and her friend has disappeared. This makes her mother liable for the debt, which Fuuma has paid off. By the end of the day, Satoko finds herself moving into the mansion with a 10-year-old boy as her fiancé.
Can Satoko continue to live happily? How will she accept Fuuma? While the story may seem unconventional, it is light, cheerful, and humorous. The characters and settings are fairly well-drawn. I believe the story is good but could benefit from more character development. Nevertheless, the manga is highly enjoyable, showcasing the growth of the characters and their struggles to understand their feelings. (While reading the manga, I actually forgot that Fuuma was only 10 years old.) Overall, I truly enjoyed this manga!
