Tang Xu returned to the countryside from the city to accompany his mother. After his mother passed away, he stayed alone in the village, usually farming and raising chickens, streaming online. Although life was not wealthy, it was very comfortable.

Until a torrential rainstorm and flood struck, he was swept away by the flood while trying to rescue children in the village. When he opened his eyes again, he had become Xu Ge’er, a character in ancient rural life.

Who is Xu Ge’er?

He is a character from the book “The General’s Pretty Wife”, someone who once hailed from the same hometown as the general, someone who stirred the general’s heart, and someone who refused the general’s blind pursuit.

He is like an old ox, working tirelessly and diligently, doing the most work and eating the least, worn out by labor but despised by his parents at home for not marrying into a good family and not having more children.

He is Xu Ge’er who supported his husband to become a scholar but was abandoned with a divorce letter in the end.

He is the one who raised his younger siblings but was looked down upon by them as a poor relative from the countryside.

He died alone in a mud house, buried hastily with only a straw mat by the village folks.

Tang Xu sat on the hard stone bed, feeling bitterly wronged.

Listening to his mother’s curses, Tang Xu forcefully broke the chicken’s neck with his hands.

Looking at his siblings who only knew how to eat meat but not help with work, Tang Xu narrowed his eyes. If they wanted meat, they had to work for it.

Tang Xu, quickly accepting his current identity, decided to adapt to it. Since he was given a second chance at life, he would live comfortably as he pleased. As for other matters, like men having children, he wouldn’t dwell on them.

Approaching the age to marry?

Alright, he’ll marry that Orion from the neighboring village. Although there was a sick younger brother at home, the hunter was strong and good at work.

Tang Xu chewed on a piece of grass, happily patting the Orion’s chest muscles and asked with a smile, “Will you marry me?”

The Orion looked at Tang Xu’s face, which was considered outstanding in the vicinity, blushed, and nodded: “Yes!”

I'm thoroughly enjoying this experience! It would be even fantastic if I could discover where to access the raw chapters, as my impatience is urging me to dive deeper into the story. This is a genuine "slice of life" narrative, depicting the everyday challenges faced by a typical successful ancient Chinese couple. The progression of the children, the characters' consistent support and affection for one another, and the occasional life events that keep the plot engaging make for a delightful read, preventing it from becoming monotonous.

In my view, this narrative is quite engaging so far. Fans of slice-of-life stories would definitely find it appealing. However, there are certain sensitive topics, such as domestic violence within patriarchal households, which might affect readers negatively. The main character seems to possess more emotional intelligence (EQ) than intellectual quotient (IQ), displaying strong social skills and a knack for navigating life. The male lead is an enigmatic figure with a fit physique, and the supporting characters are well-rounded, avoiding one-dimensional stereotypes. Overall, I rate it a solid 4 out of 5 for now.

I actually enjoy reading about their ordinary lives, and I eagerly anticipate it every day. I appreciate the storytelling progression, as I believe supporting characters have their own narratives to unfold. The relationship between the main characters is portrayed realistically, without being overly romantic - their genuine care for one another is evident. I also find the descriptions of food preparation and cooking an enjoyable part of the story. The translation is outstanding, and I'm more than willing to wait daily for updates until the story concludes. This novel is definitely worth my time.

The story is a light-hearted novel without excessive drama, where problems tend to have simple solutions. Set in a tranquil countryside with ordinary villagers, it can be rather uneventful but cozy. The dynamic between the main character (MC) and the male lead (ML) is endearing and harmonious.

What I appreciated is the MC's strong familial bonds, as he successfully steers his younger siblings onto the right path, instilling values of hard work in them. I'm hopeful that Tang Rui, too, will eventually learn the importance of diligence and find common ground with the MC.

In summary, the book is enjoyable, albeit at a slower pace.

I initially found the start of the story engaging, with its slice-of-life approach and satisfying character dynamics. The translation quality was exceptional as well. However, my interest waned significantly once the main character became pregnant, as the pacing underwent a drastic shift. It transitioned from a detailed daily narrative to large leaps in time, skipping months and even seasons at a time. This type of pacing, typically observed towards the end of novels as they rush to wrap up, continued consistently. The focus shifted away from the protagonist to other characters, who seemed to carry the story while the MC acted as a know-it-all helper, which led to me losing interest.
