Lacuna Midnight Case

Lacuna, a forgotten town on the fringes of Agora City, or also known as the “City Dumpsite”—not because it was a landfill, but because it had become the refuge for society’s outcasts and criminals. It straddled the border between Agora and Ifosa Cities, where an ongoing dispute about its true affiliation left Lacuna lawless and isolated. Neither the cities would claim it nor let anyone from Lacuna entered their area without government approval. 

But Lacuna was infamous not only for its lawlessness but also for its mystery. Whispers of strange occurrences and stories of people with abilities beyond human comprehension circulated across the country. 

Shen Liwei, a 24-year-old homeless man who lived for years through pick-pocketing, was one of those who had a hidden ability that he buried ever since a traumatic event in his hometown. One fateful night, as Liwei wandered into the wrong territory, he became the target of a brutal gang. They took everything from him, leaving him bloodied and broken. Just when he thought the worst was over, another group, led by the enigmatic Lewis Granfin, found him and mistaken him for a member of those thugs’ group. They took him with them against his will. The next thing he knew, he’s already in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by those people he never met, the same people who forced him to work in Lacuna Secrets Cafe for legal money and a home to stay.

However, Liwei didn’t expect that they’re going to do a job beyond on what they can do as a normal cafe employee. Later at night, Liwei encountered the other side of those people he met. A normal human outside, but has a supernatural abilities inside. They aren’t just working in the cafe, but also solving a case as a member of Lacuna Midnight Case, a secret agency in a Red District that affiliated with Lacuna Nexus Guild, an organization for people who have special ability. 

What will Shen Liwei do after knowing the truth behind his work? Will he disclose his true ability and seek for help to solve the case that happened five years ago? Or will he quit and forget about it?
