“You, that’s His Majesty the Emperor, you know!?”

“Is that more important than a steamed bun?”

Yui Mei has two secrets.

First, she retained the memories of her past life. Second, it is highly probable that she is a daughter of the Sai Kingdom’s Emperor.

As a certified die-hard fan of Chinese dramas in her past life, she willingly participated in the court lady selection just for the sake of seeing the imperial harem in the flesh.

"It's an excellent novel featuring a well-developed protagonist who isn't your typical assassin, which stands out from many of the stories I've encountered."

I stopped reading after Chapter 17. Other reviewers were correct – this reads like an unprofessional fanfiction written by a teenager. It's unclear if the issue lies with the translation or the original author, but the writing is choppy, with inconsistent tenses and phrases that appear overly elaborate, bordering on imitation of a Victorian-era fanfiction. There are also excessive use of semicolons, which seem unnecessary.

Here are some examples from Chapter 1:

    - Spoiler: "Yui Mei was raised in the nunnery until she turned seven; by then, she learned about her own story through the gossiping nuns."
    - "Her black hair was tinged with a shade of midnight blue; it was a marvelous sight, indeed."
    - "She even went to China with her friends to attend fan events; not just once, but multiple times."

The writing style appears forced and pretentious:

    - Spoiler: "A beauty, having the lowest status among the empress and imperial wives, originally entered the palace as a court lady. Her plain appearance was what caught the emperor's eye, her hair color being the source of favor. By the way, Yui Mei's hair color came from her mother."
    - "Her promotion after giving birth to the emperor's child led to resentment from higher-ranking consorts, despite her lack of connections."

Repetitive sentence structures like "Moreover," "By the way," "Apparently," "Indeed," and "Nevertheless" make the text monotonous.

Lastly, there's an overabundance of commas, often without the Oxford comma, which detracts from the clarity of the sentences:

    - Spoiler: "People dressed in exquisite attire watched Yui Mei's group, moving back and forth, likely finding it unusual to see country girls in the capital."

In conclusion, I stopped reading due to poor writing and grammatical issues, which made the reading experience tedious and unenjoyable.

The experience was enjoyable, with a lighthearted self-portrait of life peppered with family dynamics. It's not as intense as "Apothecary," but it's an enjoyable read and translation nonetheless.

This is an exceptionally heartwarming and cozy tale that progresses at a leisurely pace. However, it skillfully focuses on nurturing the deep connections between Yui Mei and the other characters.

"It's indeed an excellent narrative, distinct from Kusuriya no Hikoto. Despite some initial criticism, the rest of the story captivates, particularly with its intriguing twist involving a reincarnated character that brings unforeseen plot developments."

In a Chinese costume drama, the anime character surprisingly claimed to recall her past life while being a fan of such shows, but her lack of cultural understanding was apparent. She interrupted the crown prince's consultation with a doctor, behaved improperly, and didn't exhibit any authenticity for her supposed era. Her actions resembled a tourist visiting a new place without prior research, coming across as naive rather than knowledgeable. Despite her claimed intelligence (excluding the assassin stereotype), her decisions were somewhat foolish. The story could be seen as a subpar adaptation of "Kusuriya no Hitorigoto."

While I initially found it disappointing, it's still a decent read for some light entertainment. One should just mentally set aside any expectations based on typical Chinese novel tropes.

Upon rereading this, I realize I might have forgotten why I originally wrote this review, as it's been three years. Perhaps my opinion could change or the rating, but for now, that's how I remember it.

This book effectively demonstrates the stark contrast between the protagonist's pre-transmigration existence, marked by hardships, and their newfound happiness in the story. I find the character's passion for food incredibly charming, as it stems from a relatable and well-justified backstory. It's a delightful change of pace that truly captivates my interest.

It's quite challenging to come across a mob character who isn't foolish,兼具医学知识又非刺客,这样的主角设定确实罕见。故事节奏不紧不慢,暗流涌动的剧情在那些每章都让人捏把汗的悬疑桥段中,为我带来了心灵上的疗愈。
