Easily one of the better cultivation novels on here. An interesting thing about the novel is that it tries to break some of the tropes and conventions that are standard in this genre by literally having the MC travel to a different country to avoid cliche arrogant young masters. Even moreso, when the MC eventually encounters a traditional cultivation sect he remarks at how backwards and inefficient it is. Its a bit refreshing to see a story try something new. After a while though the tone changes drastically and while it isn't a bad change, it's actually quite suited to the setting, it does lack a bit of the oomph of the first arc.That being said, the characters are done badly. For all the research on the U.S. culture/political system that the author actually seems to be mostly accurate in, the behavior and lexicon of the American characters is really...Chinese. Other characters are one dimensional and there are also the standard characters who might be interesting for a few chapters only to be forgotten about quickly.Overall, it's definitely worth a read for daring to break convention though it's not the end all be all of cultivation novels.0 0 Reply
